L 1 P .- bv. 6 v '- 5 4 -.. -. How wonderfully fortunate you all are. Rich or poor, each of you have had the marvelous privilege of opening the finest high school for many miles around. ln this school are immeasurable opportunities available to you, opportunities of all kinds, music, literature, art, science, skills, friendships, etc. But what are you going to do with these experiences? Now you will want to do a bit of research which will lead to some definite plans for the days ahead. Those of you returning here next year should find for yourselves the causes for success or failure. lt is a great day when anyone takes himself in hand and es- tablishes for himself a wholesome purpose. A purpose will help you develop many fine qualities of character as faith, courage, imagination and a score of others. You who are leaving school are likewise setting forth on a road toward some goal. You should ask yourselves whether you have what it takes to face discourage- ments and still strive to succeed. To achieve success and happiness you will have to work. I do not mean simply a tolerable application and industry that merely hold you in a job, but a hard, consistent, creative toil. You will stumble and hesitate, but don't quit. Ours is a country where everybody can find his task, his niche, his reward. lt depends largely upon you. I wish happiness and success to every member of the graduating class. Charles E. Lelvlasters A view ofthe office , 'J' r'H4'- - M Le Masters .5 I 1 Mrs Ruth Blair X :if . Schrirnper, J. Strott, J. Peterson. 10-15 - 1040 Upon entering the high school, we had the honor of being the first class in the Annex. We were busy with the problems of changing classes, having various teachers, and doing homework. 1949 - 1050 ln the eighth grade we were the graduating class of the Annex. With our enthusiasm we sponsored a dance, a skating party, and a campaign to purchase clocks for the rooms and halls of the Annex. All these activities were highly successful, both socially and financially. 1930 - 1031 Our Freshman class went from the Annex tothe High School which would be their home for most of the next four years. Our leaders were: Tom Rogerson, President, Mary Alice Lambert, Vice President, Pat McKinney, Secretary, Nancy Rose, Treasurer. 1931 - 1932 As Sophomores we had a busy year, our officers were: Ken Weed, President, Jim Rowley, Vice President, Jeanine Peterson, Secretary, Kay Prindle, Treasurer. We sponsored a semi-formal and a barn dance. Our advisors were Mr. Bickford, Mr. Hayes, Mr. Barr, Mr. Nason, Miss Zuck, and Miss Seyboldt. They helped us order our class rings. 1032 - 1933 Our officers in our Junior year were: Jeanine Peterson, President, Charles Brown, Vice President, Pat l-indell, Secretary, Tom Rogerson, Treasurer. We sponsored many activities including a dance after a footballgameanda skating party, The Junior Play, Cheaper by the Dozen , was directed by Miss Sherrange. The 1954 Kaldron elections were held and highlighting the spring calendar was the Junior-Senior Prom at Behrend Center. The Junior ushers contributed much to the success of the Senior Baccalaureate and Commencement Services. Our advisors were Mr. Korrell, T-.liss Sherrange, Mrs. Long, Mr. Bolkey, and Mr. Lloyd. 1933 - 1934 We finally reached our Senior year. The half-day sessions until November 16th were a novelty tous all. When we started full days, it was tiresome but we soon returned back in the groove. Our officers were: .Jeanine Peterson, President, Tom Rogerson, Vice President, Jack Strott, Sec- retary, Ron Schrimper, Treasurer. We held many successful events such as a Kaldron dance, a Senior party, an exchange assembly after the January tests, a dance after the last basketball game, the annual St. Pat's Dance, and the Senior Play. Our football queen was Mary Alice Lambert. ln February we presented our Senior Play Beauty and the Beef, It was a huge success. We leave with the memory of being the first class to graduate from the new McDowell High School. , ca ri Y N11 is-2' ' : 'v- ' 1 :fi v 44' ,ie 1 ll . . End Center Tackle, Guard Millcreek opened its 1053 season by bowing to the City Champions, East, 55-31, Fiddler and Mitchell each scored twice in Millcreek's first of two appearances in the Stadium. Bischoff scored once and Mike Wander caught the extra point. Millcreek, after leading 7-6 at the half, had to come from behind to tie a surprisingly tough Titusville team 13-13. Co-captain Hal Fiddler scored a touchdown and an extra point while Tom Mitchell also scored once. Corry, favored by 20 points, was given a real' scare by the Trojans as two passes were dropped in the end zone. A Rogerson to O'Connell pass accounted for a touchdown and Mitchell snagged the extra point to make the final score 14-7, Corry, The Trojans rolled over North East, 20-7, as they chalked up vic- tory number one. North East put up a strong defense in the first half but the Trojan attack proved too powerful. Jack Delavern blocked a punt and raced 2U yards for a touchdown. Mitchell and Rogerson also scored as Dick Bischoff converted twice. Millcreek, scoring late but fast, downed the Girard Yellow Jackets 25-7. With Girard leading 7-0 going into the fourth quarter, Fiddler, Bischoff, Rogerson, and Mitchell each scored in an exciting flurry. il I l ' K i l sl R Q' il It-in '. L ea tiff., L PRX The biggest upset of the year was the Trojan victory over Greenville. Tom Mit- chell scored two touchdowns as he added to his personal total which was the highest of the Trojans. Dick Bischoff scored also on a spectacular 81-yard run. Millcreek's blocking and ballhandling was superb. Millcreek clashed with a determined If R underdog Oil City team and the final result was 27-12 in favor of Oil City. On receiv- ing the first kickoff, Millcreek immediately scored on a handoff to Bischoff. Rogerson also scored, however, the Trojans couldn't stop the Oil City running attack. The Trojans got back into their winning ways by crushing Harborcreek 38-7. Al- though Coach Goll emptied the bench and even used the Jayvees, Millcreek was able to stop the Huskies handily. Bischoff scored twice and kicked an extra point. Mitchell, Wander, Fiddler and Co-captain Ken Weed H, Ghering, p, 5011, D, I-,Ong scored as Fiddler also kicked an extra point, The season came to a successful con- clusion when Millcreek trounced Strong Mi11Cr6'6k 31 EHS! 55 Vincent at the Stadium. Capably captained by Larry Al Brown, the Trojans compiled a regular season record of 11 wins and 5 losses, in addi- tion to two other wins over the Alumni and the Faculty. Starting out slowly, the Trojans sand- wiched wins over Wesleyville and Harborcreek in between losses to Corry, Academy, East, and Meadville. Then the team, showing improvement over previous performances, racked up a five game winning streak, defeating Conneaut, Vincent, Tech, Academy, and highly-rated Ashtabula quintet. But on February 9, a packed house watched the East High Warriors defeat Mc- Dowell in the decisive game of the Section l title race. Not winning the Section I title didn't faze our Trojans, however. They ended the season by dumping Vincent, Titusville, and Tech. Thus the debut of Coach Ronald Bud McCoy was ahighly successful one, as we did capture second place. Captain Al' led the scoring with 230 points in the 16 regular games for a 14.5 point aver- age. Hun' Fiddler was runner-up with 216 points. Ken Weed, John Sampson, Tom Mitchell, and Bill Trohoske followed with 141, 126, 81, and 50 points respectively. All eyes are turned toward the East end of the field as the drums roll out the introduction to the band's music. There is a blaze of color as the high-stepping majorettes led by Carol Ceeder, appear with their colorful flags and silver barons. Led by J. C. DeLong, the band follows, resplendent in their blue and white uni- forms. They march to the center of the field, and the flag is raised at the west end while the strains of the Star-Spangled Banner are heard. Following this the band and majorettes execute various formations to complete the half-time entertainment. Without the band, a great part of our school spirit would be' lost. 1 Mgfbf Z, . ,fu Ewa' fi ,. . Cpening Words We pause to pay tribute to our alma mater, for soon the only trace of our passing will be this Kaldron we leave behind. Many fond memories dot these pages, memories which cannot be replaced. Our thoughts and deeds during these all-too-short years have shaped our lives. Later, as we look back, we hope not to recall any hard- ships or sorrows we might have faced, but instead the happiness we shared as the class of 1954. Rall Ensemble First row: I. Evans, J. This familiar announcement sounds over the P.A. system every other weekend as the Hub staff pre- pares another issue of our school news- paper. Assignments are distributed to the re- porters who interview students and teachers to obtain information about various school activities. Their write-ups are then turned in to the editors. Over the weekend the dummy copy is prepared for the ads for the printer. On publication day a familiar scene in the corridors is that of a group of students gathered around a member of the Hub circulation staff.
