Football This is a tribute and a hand- shake to the boys who have played their last game in a Trojan uni- form. Never again will they know the electric thrill of competition under the lights on a crisp, clear night. As they miss these nights. so shall we miss them. We shall miss the talented arm of Jack DeBold as well as his running. Catching his passes were Don Godfrey, who was also a rugged defensive end, Don Hester, who would never quit. and Joe Fickenworth, who was always de- pendable. Buster Haney helped with the passing chores and ran the ball as well as calling signals. The opposition will long remember our bruising fullback, Jim tooth- less Cross. In the middle of the line, the dirty work was shared by Dave Stonewall Renshaw, Red Adelhart and Joe Spusta. Completing our bulwark line were our two tackles, Bill Angelotti and Brad Hindson. Mention of the 1953 team would not be complete without saying thanks to the coaches, Paul Goll and Dave Long, who contributed in a large way to the success of the team. Jack DeBold, Paul Gull Jack Henning, Bud McCoy Millcreek 0 - East 0 An underdog Millcreek team fought to an impressive stalemate with the Warriors from East High at Millcreek in the season opener. The Trojans threatened several times but the big East line held their ground deep in East territory. Millcreek 19 - Titusville 18 A pass from Haney to Wander scoring the only extra point of the game provided the margin of victory in a thrilling see-saw contest. Fiddler scored' the first touchdown on a pass from Rogerson followed by DeBold's buck for a touchdown. Mitchell set the stage for the all-important extra point by taking an aerial from Haney and racing to paydirt. Millcreek 0 - Corry 41 After being pushed around early in the game the Beavers from Corry settled down to rout the Blue and White. Oddly enough the Trojans held a first down margin of 11 to 10. Millcreek 27 - North East 13 The Trojans waited until the second half before smashing the game wide open. Millcreek scored twice on passes from Haney to Mitchell followed by a 25-yard run by Cross. DeBold tallied the clincher to give Millcreek its second win of the season. Millcreek 9 - Girard 12 Two desperation touchdown passes gave Girard the victory after the Trojans had ap- parently sewed up the game. Weed' caught a Girard back behind their goal to score a safety and Fiddler recovered a fumble for a touchdown with Haney passing to Mitchell for the extra point. DeBold sat out the entire second half with a head injury which hurt the Trojans' chances considerably. Millcreek 0 - Greenville 47 After being held to a 7-0 halftime lead the unbeaten Greenville team turned on the power to hand the Trojans their worst defeat of the season. Millcreek 13 - Oil City 20 Waiting until late in the fourth period the Trojans suddenly came to life as Fiddler caught two passes for touchdowns. Bischoff took a handoff to score the extra point but the Oilers clung on to their slim lead to keep a slim victory. Millcreek 33 - Harborcreek 6 Millcreek enjoyed their best night of the season as they rolled to an easy win over the hard-luck Huskies. Scoring for the T1'3ja:vs were Rogerson, who scampered 70 yards on a quarterback sneak, Weed, who picked up a Harborcreek fumble, Mitchell, who raced 61 yards, and Fiddler, who tallied twice on two passes from DeBold. Millcreek 13 - Vincent 26 In the season's final game a huge Vincent team carried too many guns for a small but scrappy Millcreek eleven.. A pass play covering 70 yards from DeBold to Mitchell gave Millcreek the ball on Vincent's 1 yard line seconds after the opening whistle. Mitch scored, followed later by Haney's touchdown to Complete Millcreek's scoring. H001
