19.,t,KALDRoN Student Council The Student Council, with Mr. Crandall as faculty advisor, has been active since the Fall of 1938. There is at least one delegate from each of the home-rooms in this organization. The following officers were elected from the members of last year's Student Council: Jean Brown, President, Roy Stadler, Vice President, and Ruth McDonald, Secretary. The Council has maintained the Hall Patrol and Monitor systems again this year. It has also organized campaigns for cleanliness, started the Girl Reserves, and ac- complished many other things to benefit the school. The Student Council represents the student body in the affairs of the school. Orclaemfu This year our Orchestra, under the fine direction of Mr. Howard Forbes, continued its musical career as in previous years. A new addition has been made to the Orchestra in the form of a beginning or- chestra. By joining this beginners group with our regular organization, Millcreek can expect great things from its Orchestra next year. The members of the Orchestra took several trips to other schools and several of its musicians were selected to participate in the Festival Orchestra at Corry, Penn- sylvania, in January. Girl Referuef This year the juniors and seniors had the honor of being the charter members of the Millcreek Girl Reserves. The Girl Reserves was organized in 1915 with the purpose of preparing the young woman of America to take her place as a Christian citizen in her home, her school, her church, and her community. During the year, the Girl Reserves participate in activities which, they believe, help to build fine characters. This year the girls enjoyed lectures, IUFCCD suppers at the Y.W.C.A., knitting for the soldiers, bowling, sleigh rides, dances, mother and daughter teas, and get- together parties. Prem Club The Press Club is one of the most active clubs in Millcreek. It was formed in 1937 by Emily Zuck, Virginia Rye, and Elwin Fuller, and has improved with the years in greatness and number. Mr. Shepley is the faculty advisor for this organization, and in 1940-41 he was aided by Mr. Korrell. The club is made up of students who publish the MILLCREEK HUB and TROJANAIRE. They also print tickets and basketball schedules at various times during the year. In 1941 the Hun won first place in the Quill and Scroll contest, which is nation- wide judging of high school publications. The previous two years it took second place. 61

KALDRoN,.,.,1 Hall Patrol The Hall Patrol was organized in 1938 by Mr. Crandall. Under his direction this club has become an important organization in Millcreek High School. The Hall Patrol consists of boys from the eighth to the twelfth grades who know the rules and regulations of the school perfectly. The black arrowed lines in the halls are to aid the student body and do away with unnecessary confusion. Students are required to keep to the right and to keep the lines moving. The Hall Patrol does not have any important social activities, but the members receive awards at the end of the school year. Clooraf The Millcreek High School Chorus, under the capable direction of Mr. Crandall, was very active this year. It had a membership of nearly one hundred students. On December 12., the Chorus participated in a radio program presented by the Tuberculosis Association, over Station W.L.E.U., and on December 15, sang Christ- mas music over the Public Address System in Erie. A Christmas concert was also presented in the school. In March, a program was given at Wesleyville High School. Shortly after this the Chorus lost its efficient director, who had been at Millcreek for the past eleven years. After his departure the organization was taken over by another excellent director- Miss Strickler, who worked very hard to get it under way again. The Chorus entered the Spring Festival, held in the college building at Edinboro, May 8th and 9th. Several numbers were presented. This organization has already established a line record for Millcreek High School. Commercial Club The Commerical Club was organized in the Fall of 1939 under the sponsorship of Miss Zuck. Since it was started it has become one of the important clubs of Millcreek. The purpose of the Commercial Club is to develop its members into all-around personalities and to help them become good secretaries. It also teaches them how to apply for a position. The club sponsors teas, book reviews, clean-up campaigns, and English campaigns. There are twelve members in the club. The officers are: President, Dorothy Detisch, Vice President, Marian Kanis, Secretary, Evelyn Weber. N atronal H orzor Society For the last eight years fifteen percent of each graduating class from Millcreek High School have been chosen to receive the highest honor that can be given a high school student-membership in the National Honor Society. Now nearly one hundred Millcreek alumni wear the official emblem of the National Honor Society-a flaming torch mounted upon a keystone. Four letters-C, S, L, and S-around the base of the design, symbolize the four requirements for membership . . . Character, Scholar- ship, Leadership, and Service. Ten percent of each senior class and five percent of each junior class are elected by the faculty at the close of each school year, but the students' names remain on the roll only as long as they maintain high standards. Those elected from the Junior Class of the school year 1940-1941 were as follows: Dorothy Anderson, Donald Kohl, Betty Roesch, Helen Waidley and Richard Kidder. 61

r K A L D R O Ni-1947. ,ft Hall Monitorf The Hall Monitor system was organized in the school year of 19397-4o under the capable supervision of Mr. Crandall. He continued to supervise it until this year, when Mr. LeMasters was selected as faculty advisor for this organization. At the present time it is under the direction of Mr. Kuhl, who took Mr. LeMaster's place. Different monitors are stationed at various intervals in the halls each period of the day. It is their duty to see that every pupil passing through the hall has a permit signed by a faculty member stating where the pupil came from and where he is going. They must then write his name on a form that is provided. This method eliminates unnecessary loitering and confusion in the halls. The Hall Monitor system has proved very successful in the past and will be a success in the future, due to the co-operation of the pupils and the faculty members. F. EA The F. F. A. Clfuture Farmers of Americal is a nationwide organization. lt was formed by the Vocational Agriculture boys of America. The purpose of this organization is to give boys vocational guidance as well as a social and recreational center. Each summer the club enjoys a trip to Pennsylvania State College and each winter a number of candidates are sent to the State Farm Show in Harrisburg. Our own F. F. A. boys, under the direction of Mr. Payne, also boasted a fine basket- ball team this year. This year's oflicers are: President, Calvin Love, Vice President, Raymond Winslow, Secretary, Donald Waldemarson, Treasurer, Robert Root, Reporter, Clifford Hammer. Libmigf Club The Millcreek High School Library Club was Hrst organized in 1936 by Miss Christine Messerly. In the five years of its existence this club has become one of the largest in Millcreek. There are twenty regular members whose aims are to maintain and improve the condition of the library. This year, under the able guidance of the new Librarian, Mrs. Sampson, the club has accomplished much. One of the most important events of the year was the celebration of Book Week. Many posters, book jackets, and book plates vrere exhibited in the library which expressed the enthusiasm of the student body. Those who are in the Library Club have gold pins which signify their membership in the organization. The oflicers of the club are as follows: President, Madelyn Fleming, Vice President, Jean Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer, Mildred Weaver, Historian, Vivian Allen. The Band The Band, under the direction of Mr. Howard Forbes, is composed of forty-three members which is an increase of eleven over last year's membership. During the school year the band played for football games and assembly programs. Before the Christmas vacation they went to Harborcreek and played for the school assembly. In the spring, Millcreek and Lawrence Park combined their bands to give a large concert for both schools. We are proud to say that our school was represented by Naomi Gill, Doris Pongratz, Marion LeVesque, Lucy Mae Lapple, Betty Roesch, Elaine Deininger, Phyllis Horth, Ann DeLancey, John Baird, Dell Lott, Clifford Hammer, Kenneth Shores, Helen Waiclley, Laurine Engel, Betty Barringer, Lois Love, Jean Johnson, Ernest Grames, Bernard Skapura and Glenn Ewer, in the All-County Chorus.
