Those who are responsible for its publication herewith present a graphic description of personalities and activities which prove that old M.H.S. continues the pat- tern of educational service and intellectual and physical accomplishments, long ago established in this institution of learning. The moving finger writes and having writ moves on. The present soon becomes the past, and the future soon moves into the position of the present. But as time flows on quietly and relentlessly, interested eyes may repeatedly scan these pages and momentarily turn back the pages of time and recapture and re-live the rich and happy moments previously experienced in these halls of training. It is with this idea in rnind that we dedicate this Annual to all who have shared with us the enjoyable use of our beautiful well-kept buildings, the rich association of our varied and talented faculty, and the efficient and energetic Administration and Board. We wish to express our appreciation to Mr. Kulcuk, the advisor and editor, to Miss Fenton and her art students, and to the competent staff of eleventh and twelfth grade students who gave willingly of their time and talent to make this 1955 Roller a definite success. QU sn. Fl Closs Prophecy by Sally Calvert Loretta Luknis Pearl Mackey Lynn Goodrich When we graduated in 1955, we decided to have a reunion in ten years, said Lor- etta. Here it is 1965 already, and the re- union committee fPearl, Lotsie, Sal, and Lynnl are still trying to find where everybody is as we are sitting in the offices of lane Meek's Broadway Production- Aqua Antics. Well, where should we start? asked Lor- etta. Maybe it would be easier to start alphabetically, don't you think so? We all agreed. lack Betts is first on our list, she continued. Does anyone know where he is? Oh! I saw lack the other day. He and Honey are married now, and lack is selling balloons to support their three children, Pearl said., Oh yes, he mentioned what a coincidence it was that Marie Clifford is teaching school now, and that his son is Marie's star pupil. tCliff also married her dream man--coach of Ohio University.l Well, that's killing two birds with one stone, said Loretta. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Mary Brown? Yes, Pearl said. Donna Ward is running a big photo- graphic studio, and Mary Brown is taking care of her books. She's a very good book- keeper. I'm afraid Teresa Colburn won't be able to be here, Sal said. She's head majorette for the Navy football team, and they have a game tomorrow. Fred Toth is their star full- back. He can really kick that football! I was talking to Betty Toth the other day fshe's practicing her interior decorating on Dave, in their own little homel, and she was telling me about Teresa and Fred, Sal said. We're getting off the track here, said Loretta. We'd better start alphabetically again. Where did we leave off? Terri Bucan, huh! She and Dave are married now. In fact, they've already started on a basket- ball team. Dave is coaching the two boys. and Terri is teaching their little girl the fun- damentals of cheerleading. She's already got a good start. She sure can make lots of noise! I don't think Pat Dinard can be here either, said Sal. She's the head buyer of Saks on Fifth Avenue of New York, and she's in Paris now, looking for new fashions. Gary Frazier is running a most exclusive shop in Chicago called 'The Tall Men's Shop.' Oh, Yeh! Here comes Leslie Gahagan. He's showing ofi his nails. He just got them manicured. Sal, said Lynn, did you know he owns his own service station, and he's top me- chanic at the job? Let's see who's next. Oh, yes, I read in the Youngstown Vindicator a story written by Bob Getts Cstar reporterl, stating that Bob Miller is running for Demo- cratic governor of Ohio, said Lotsie, and isn't it wonderful how so many of the class are successful? Speaking of being successful, Nancy Iulian is an understudy for Audrey Hepburn !I'll bet she never expected that when she moved to Californial. Shirley El- liott and Al are now happily married and also living in California. Hope they can make it to the reunion. I don't think Bill McBride will come, though, because he's still in Alaska, trying to find that uranium mine. Oops! were off the track again. Who's next? Terry Freisen, Oh! He's the recorder on the hit parade. tl dream of 'Ieannie with the Light Brown Hair'l. I heard it on Dial Durk's disc jockey show.l Bill Durkin is really mak- ing good. He's got his own disc jockey pro- gram. By the way, said Lotsie, Barb Downs is a hat check girl in my night club. Do you have a night club, Lotsie? Yes, Pearl. It's exclusively for sailors: its near Norfolk, Virginia. How nice! exclaimed Lynn. Did you girls know that Ieral Iohnson manages a chain of grocery stores? asked Pearl. Very successful, too. Pearl, do you know whether Rich Gonze is coming? asked Lotsie. Yes! He's com- ing. Did you know he and Tom Tyger are running a steam-bath house in down-town new York? continued Lotsie. Yes! I guess they're successful. Here they come in their Cadillac. Boy, isn't it sharp? said Sal en- thusiastically. Betty Grosbeck and Bob Hobbs are mar- ried and raising two little Bobbies, said Pearl. I guess they will come if they can get a baby sitter. Did you know that Dorothy Ioe is Dor- othy Dandridge's own personal hair dresser? Yes, Dorothy owns her own parlor down town in Hollywood, said Loretta. Ioann Krossman is still at M.H.S., said Lynn. She's taking Miss Newlun's place as a shorthand teacher. Oh, Yeah! Martin Kiel- tch is still here, too. He's president of the Board of Education. By the way, Pearl, where are you work- ing? Oh, I own my own shoe store in Youngstown. It's called Pearl's Shoe Store. Well, I guess we're back to the boys again, said Loretta. Did you know that tContinued on page 907 PAGE 20 p54 M7Lfl5XTlAN'S VIEW OFFQJQNALD X Z J if X uni X , - 11Q',J' Y J .' PX. This was the only loss handed to the Blue Devils this season, and it spoiled a per- fect record. McDonald-0 Columbiana-U Both McDonald and Columbiana fought a very hard battle, only to end it in a scoreless deadlock. This, as with all of the games, was in league competition. McDonald-34 Iackson-Milton-0 After a loss and a tie, McDonald broke into the winning column for the first time this season at Iackson- Milton, by defeating the Blue Iays in a one-sided con- test. McDonald-25 Canfield-7 The Blue Devils then traveled to Canfield to meet their arch-rival, the Canfield Cardinals. The McDonald boys came out on top of a very impressive 25-7 score over the Class A Cardinals. McDonald-47 Lowellville-7 The very much improved McDonald eleven had an easy evening as they downed the Lowellville Rockets in their home-coming game. This was the third league win for the Blue Devils. McDonald-41 North Lima-0 McDonald again had an easy evening at home when they defeated the Zippers of North Lima and captured their fourth league victory. McDonald-41 Springfield-0 McDonald climaxed their season by defeating the Springfield tigers on home ground, giving the Blue Devils another winning season. The McDonald Blue Devils closed their season with a record of five wins, one tie, and one loss. They were crowned the Inter-County League Champions for the second time in the four years of the league's existence. They received a trophy and now have two of three re- quired legs of the rotating trophy. CROWNING THE QUEEN Queen - Marie Clifford, Terry Bucan, Betty Toth, Shirley Elliott. Sally Calvert. The orchestra won a beautiiul plaque, inscribed: Ohio Music Education, State Competition Finals, Superior Hating. In October the band was awarded a trophy at the Girard Homecoming Parade, inscribed: Best Marching Unit. For the tirst time in the history of the school, music scholarships were given. They were awarded at gradu- ation to Alice Ann Rea and Iudith Iohnson. On December 8 we held our second annual Music Boosters Banquet to honor our band. After Mr. Phillips spoke and awarded the Seniors their Musical Keys. our Toastmaster, Earl Walker, introduced our guest speaker, Mr. George F. Strickling, director of the fam- ous Cleveland Heights High School Choir. All those present were given the opportunity of hearing a man whose life time has been devoted to teaching music. I-le showed a colored iilm and described in detail the fabulous tour that took them through ten countries of Europe. If the parents of all the children who form these musical groups would unite, they could lend a strong right arm, so to speak, to those through whose efforts our children attain this wonderful music background. Oh, well, I guess he always was that type. C?!?l Does anybody know what happened to Don Pearce after he graduated? asked Lynn. The last I heard he was happily married, but still borrowing money for gas from his father-in-law, replied Loretta. fhuh! Peg! I saw Harry Penttala yesterday, said Lynn. I was at his used-car lot looking for a car for my brother. You should have seen him. He was in his office sitting in a big chair and smoking a big cigar. I told him about the reunion and he said he would come. Sal, did you see Iackie Gleason last Saturday? asked Pearl. Frank Regich was the star on the program while Iackie was away. Yeh! land away we goJ ! Have you heard anything from Bill Rob- erts? Lynn asked. Yes! I saw him the other day, still looking for the right one to come along, replied Pearl. While I was in the hospital visiting my Mother, said Loretta, I saw Dee Roberson. While I was talking to her, she told me that she was a registered nurse ftaking care ot Waymon's Snifflesl. Dee told me she saw 'Bee' Ryan the other day. He's now manager of the Red Head's basketball team, and doing a fine job coaching them. Iune Simpson seems to be interested in sports, too. She is now a famous swimmer in the Olympics. I hear Iim Synder is chief rival for Lib- erace? fYeah, only Iim can't sing!J, reported Lynn. Last but not least, on our 1ist, said Lor- etta, is Paul Zajac. I think he'll be able to make it, he's an owner of his own book shop. tHe always did like to read booksl. We11, I guess we have rounded up all of our class now, Oops! We nearly forgot about Lynn Goodrich. What exciting things have happened to you, Lynn? Oh, I'm married now to a millionaire that I met at Miami University, Lynn replied. Let's decide what time and where we should hold the reunion, said Pearl. Let's have it about 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Oh, that will never do, Sal exclaimed. I won't be able to come then, because Bob has a game. lHe's end for the Cleveland Brownsl. Let's make it a little later! Golly, I can't wait! What fun we'll have!
