ATHLETIC COUNCIL PROMOTES ATHLETIC The Athletic t'ouncil is niade up of repre- sentatives of the school board. the faculty, and tl1c senior high school classes. .lohn Williamson, senior: .lon SUlllll0l'. junior, and ltichard Scott, SUlDlll:lll0l'C, are the senior high school class rep- rescntatives. The group is perhaps the least known or- ganization i11 our school, but certainly rates high i11 iniportaucc-at least as far as athletics are een-ccrucd. The group has tl1c task of organizing the complete sports lll'Ugl'il111 for the school. The council schedules games. advertises each game, provides tickets. buys equipment, sponsors sports banquets, and provides transportation for away QIHIIIOS. This year the council sponsored tlll all- sports banquet. It also bought new football tllltl new basketball cquipnient. An interesting fact about the council and Mellonald lligh is that the very best equipment is always purchased in order to secure the safety of our boys as well as to provide attractive looking squads. T-he student 1'eprescntatires for this organ- ization gain lnuch experience i11 planing and organizing. The boys must he boys who are ca- pable of good judgment. They are elected by the class at large and their job is to express the opinions of the athletes in their room. One of the IIOIIIIItl-Illl'-SCOIIO duties of the Athletic Uouncil is the buying of equipment. Long before our teau1s start practice, our coach- cs have turned i11to thc council, a requisition sheet of lnaterial a11d cquipnient. needed for the emning season. The council discusses and votes on the material which is then ordered and de- livered i11 time for the first practice. The otlicers for this year lllt'lll4l0 Mr. Pettit, prcsidentg Mr. UIIIIICPUII, vice prcsidentg Mr. Stasko, secretary illltl treasurer.
