JUNIOR CLASSICAL LEAGUE ACTIVE The Latin Club, as the Junior Classieul League is most frequently ealled, has had tl very active and successful year. This small but im- pressive group always inanages to till its year with many projects and activities. The Club sponsored ii very successful dance on J amuury 6. In December, its members held at Saturmilin which is n Ronum banquet. At the Saturnalia the native dress of the Romans, togns, are worn. Ronnln food is served, and the feast is eaten in a reclining position. A program of en- tertzximnent was put on by different members of the elub. One of the most important activities of the Latin Club each year is the tield trip to the Ruhl Planetarium. Each school sends different pro- jects nnule by their members. These are judged and prizes are given to the best. This year Mrs. Campbell and her students went to see Cineraina Holiday. This day will be long remembered by the whole Club. E The Latin Club holds its meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Every- one looks forward to these meeting because they are always enjoyable. Roman games are played and Roman erossword puzzles are inaide up and worked by the members. A The ottieers of t.his club are: Murcia Pow- ell, presidentg Jeette Russell, vice presidentg Nona Stierheim, seeretaryg Judith Randour, treasurerg and Joye Masquelier, reporter. EL CLUB PAN-AMERICA ADDS COLOR TO M. H. S. lil Club Pan-Aineriea, one of the most col- orful organizations of Mellonald High School, has had a very sueeessful year. The members of this elub are made familiar with the language and customs of the Iiatiu Ameriean people. Club meetings are held on the second a11d third Mon- days of the month. The Pan ilh1l10l'lK'iilll Club is very aetive throughout -the year. For . Open llouse, eluh members deeorated their room with a Spanish fiesta motif. lu the eeuter of the room they hung a pinata, which is tilled with candy, fruit, and nuts. One of the high points of the iiesta is the breaking of the pinata, which is done by blind- folded players who swing at it with a stiek. After it is broken. its contents are shared by all. At Christmas time the elub held a Christmas party at whieh Spanish songs were sung, and Spanish inusie provided a lively beat for dancing. A Christinas dinner was also held in the Home Economies Room. Ainong' the other aetivities of the elub, a Merienda was held. A nierienda is a Spanish tea at which Spanish food is served and their native dress is worn. The club also spon- sored one very successful dance. One of the outstanding events of the year was the Held trip to Pittsburgh to see the opera Uarmen . Everyone enjoyed this diljferent ex- perience. A Another important activity of the elub is the writing of letters to high sehool students of other countries, espeeially the Latin American countries. This enables elub members to more fully lll1tlC1'Sfil1lLl the attitudes and customs of their soutli-of-the-border neighbors. The Pan-Anieriean Club is under the cap- able sponsorship of Mrs. Campbell, who is head of the Spanish Departnient. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS 0F AMERICA The senior chapter of the Future Home- niakers of America, sponsored by Miss Delores Anunons, started The '55-'56 terni by electing Donna Fooper as president and Phyllis McEl- haney as vice president. Other officers elected were Gloria Mazzocco. secretary 3 lluguette Gail- lard, treasurer: Donna Perrard, historiang and Mary Ann Toulouse, degree chairman. The offi- cers were installed at a candlelight ceremony early in the school year. Miss illlCl.0lil-ZS Annons Home Economics The F. H. A. is niade up of sophomore, junior, and senior girls who desi1'e in future years to be capable housewives. The club is dedi- cated to the idea that every woman is a honie- nialier. One of the activities of the F. H. A. is col- lecting Christinas toys for the needy of McDon- ald. Each nieniber was responsible for a toy. The F. ll. A. held its annual 1lOtl1C'l'-IDZlllgllilil' Ban- quet in March in the Home Et'.,RO0ll1. Coin- niittees, selected by the president forithe dinner, worked very hard to make it a success.'The sen- iors receivedltheir F. ll. A. pins late in the school year. Pins are awarded on the basis of points, which are earned from the sophoniore through the senior year. Points are earned by serving on eonnnittecs and by perfohrining duties at the meetings. A record of caeli-1Qirl's achieve- ments is kept by the degree cliairnian. Members of this club are a part of the nationwide organi- zation which contributes to the individual, the school, and the eonnnunity.
