Their son, Prescott, is very studious and his life life is devoted to his books. Their young daughter, Judy, wants to marry Phelps Webb, a young chap who is always 'the life of the party,' and who has never achieved anything worth while, although he is always 'busy as a beaver,' to hear him tell it. Mrs. Clayton doesn't want her daug ter to marry Phelps but she fears that if she opposes the match openly it will only force Judy into Phelps's arms. Now Hr. Clayton has a very wealthy sister, Aunt Polly, who has been of immense financial help to the Claytons. Unknown to the rest of the family, Mrs. Clayton writes Aunt Polly and begs her to pay them a visit and to help her thwart Judy's marriage to Phelps. The latter has just gained Mr. C 1ayton's consent to announce his engagement to Judy when in walks Aunt Polly and she insists in determined tones that Judy must not marry anybody until Prescott has taken a wife, since Prescott is older than Judy. This is a tough nut to crack be- cause Prescott abhors the idea of matrimony and he has never shown any interest in any girl. Phelps determines that whether Prescott likes it or not he is going to get married and with that end in view he visits a matrimonial agency which agrees to send a few of their prettiest clients to the Clayton Home. Of course Philps doesn't know that at this very time Aunt Polly has telephoned to an employ- ment agency and the result is a riot! when one of the prospective brides does arrive at the Clayton home she, in turn, ls mistaken for a cook and hilarious fun ensues. Losing his temper, Mr. Clayton puts Phelps out of the house and forbids him to ever enter it again! Phelps dons female attire in order to pay Judy a visit and this brings about further complications of a most unusual nature. Phelps, in the end, proves his worth and wins his greatly adored Judy.
