SENIOR CLASS HISTORY None of the 1954-55 seniors began school at Mc Curdy nor were any of them here for their second and third grades, So we will have to begin with the fourth grade. In 1946, we saw Ida Rodriguez, the infant in diapers, as a fourth grader. Mildred Griego came in 1947 with a Rahl Rahl for Mc Curdy. In 1948 Evangeline Romero in her glad rags comes as a star to Mc Curdy. The same year the soft voice of Julia Gutierrez was heard all over the campus. There were no new additions in the seventh grade. Victor Rornero's father gave him the drop kick and he landed atMcCurdy asan eighth grader. We thought it was the 48th political campaign going on, but Ethel Cotter had just arrived. Robert Baca. our professional pinon cracker. arrived at McCurdy inhis Freshman year. Along with him came Nora Chavez thundering in. Rosina Griego knocked on the front door so hard it caved in, and Mildred Gurule came wrapped up in a book. As Sophomores we saw Ruth Gonzales With A Song In Her Heart, and Judy Watts riding a burro to Mc Curdy from the mountains. Ohl yes, we can not forget Alice Trujillo who came in 1952 and said, How do you do? Arthur Romero was wearing his football shoes whenhe came to Mc Curdy as a junior in 1953. We thought Clark Gable was running around the campus, but it turned out to be Vanner Holmes. Ah shucksl The year of 1954 brought six new students to Mc Curdy. Dario Roybal came in a gunny sack from Colorado since he is such a good potato. Quiet! Quiet everybody! Adelina Trujillo is here. Betty McKinney came in on a cactus, if you can see the point. Erma and Lewie Miller wore their fur parkas and came in on snowshoes. They had no idea New Mexico could be so cold! As you can see, we were destined to have an unusual class. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY A few years will always mark some advancement, but now that the progressive class of students who were seniors at McCurdy during 1954-55 aregraduated, you can be sure the next few years will show progress. Let us take a peek into the future and see a few of the accomplishments of these students. ln the political field we find Evangeline Romero as Secretary of the United States, which will certainly assure no mix-ups. .Tudy Watts is now Senatress of New Mexico. No more problems for New Mexico if she can help it. At last the Nations are in peace and now we can work together and really make progress, thanks to Erma Miller who is at the head of Foreign Affairs. Adelina Trujillo, Julia Gutierrez, and Ida Rodriguez have been working in secret for the F.B.I. and crime is almost unheard of. Arthur Romero and his wife Mildred, will be able to relax now that the Romero Construction Company has finished the ten-lane highway across the United States. You can be sure that Vanner Holmes is happy because now he can start production of his new jet sport cars. ln New Mexico, we find Mildred Gurule and Rosina Griego still working for better education, but now in different forms. Mildred is now President of the University of New Mexico, and Rosina is Superintendent of the State Public Instruction. Betty McKinney has been hard at work on the atom which has resulted in the atomic rocket. It is scheduled to leave for the moon in a month. Robert Baca was going to be among the first to go to the moon, but he wouldn't afford to leave his gigantic Chile farm. Entertainment is really on top now and no wonder! In football, we hear about Victor Romero the all American Fullback, playing for the Philadelphia Steelers. Marilyn Monroe was surely knocked out of the movies when the greathit The Red head was produced, starring Ethel Cotter. Everycne's eyes popped out when Nora Chavez was shown over T.V. as she modeled Paris designed clothes. That apparel is bound to sell H I Alice Trujillo has put all other artists out of business. When she started painting, business was not big enough to supply the demand. In the music world, we hear Ruth Gonzales on the Hit Parade, with her brand new version of I Am Lonely. Out of that senior class came two great story writers, Lewie Miller and Dario Roybol J r. Everyone has read something they have written, including you.
