Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1974 volume:

Yesterday About school--1 remember.... I remember that first day as a FRESHMAN: The joy and sudden fear— Then the fun days and teardrops that washed away that year. A SOPHOMORE, how thrilling, 'til I looked ahead; Two more years before me— I might as well be dead! But it was fun: the ballgames and the dances and the classes, Before we even knew it, it was gone. My, how time passes. Now a JUNIOR--how exciting--a cheerleader, captain of the team, Cheering, playing, watching life race by like in a dream. Then a SENIOR--fateful day— all we've waited for so long— The play, the tests, the ball games, the car and dates, the old school song. The sudden fear that grips us as we near the good-by time— The Senior trip, the walk on stage, the poem without rhyme— Launching out into the space that we've been looking to, Clinging to the memories of the days I spent with you. Hold this little book, gently; in it is the magic truth To bring them back, the happy days of school and fun and youth. PAUL THOMPSON LORRAINE WELLS Class of 74 We, the class of '74, found the twelve long ye ars of school not so long after all. The good times outnumbered the bad by a huge margin. We will always remember the Junior-Senior Prom, the football and basketball games, the bam burning, the homecoming events, the creaky floors and our many teachers. Only the happy events will serve as a constant reminder of our years at McCune High School. We want to thank all who had any hand in mak- ing us the men and women we are today. 8 SUSAN Class off. 1; FHA 1,3; PepClub 1-4; Off. 4; Track 1,4; Basketball 2-4; NHS 4; Basketball 2-4; Speech 3,4; Band 2-4; Chorus 1-4; PP Football 4; Play 1-3; Math Relay’s 2-4. This was the year for wonder- ment and awe as the Eagles forged on to defeat Chetopa in a contest that will be long remembered by the Eagle's squad and fans. The crowd watched as the Eagles came up from a 22-0 score to defeat the Hornets by a two point, breath-taking margin. Oswego also fell under the spell of the amaz- ing Eagles falling to them in both confrontations. The Eagles boasted a fine line-up this past year. Duane Davis, senior line backer and tail backer was chosen for both the defensive and offensive player of the week by the Pittsburg Sun. Each and every boy on the team played long and hard to bring McCune High School a winning record. Each Senior retired from the squad knowing they helped the Eagles enjoy a sec- ond place berth in the M.B.L. F B 0 a 0 1 t 35 The 1974 basketball season started on the slow side, the squad dropped the first two games of the season be- fore posting an exciting win over Chetopa. The team battled on through the season and with the fine coaching of Coach Jacquinet and Coach Cooper the Eagles were able to boast a second place position in the MBL. Eagles 1974 Aetion 74 D. The girls played and worked hard together on the court, this teamwork proved a valuable asset when two of the starters were out because of injuries. Congratulations to all. R. Satzler, S. Allen, C. New cheers and chants kept the girls going. Last but not least the many games, the many games that each of the girls cheered their best. 42 PEP CLUB OFFICERS; Judy Naccarato, sponsor; Betty Zimmerman, secretary; Connie Hiller, president and Susan Allen, V. president. The girls enjoyed a very prosperous year in the club. New uniforms were the big order of the year. After much discussion it was final- ly decided jackets and pants were the most practical. Each girl can be proud of the effort she showed by cheering the teams on to victory. p e P C I u b 43 SCHOOL LIFE And Then We Saw! ... Carol saying, It's that big.
