Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1973 volume:

Faces Through the years, the times, the places The things you recall are the many faces-- Not the grand view from the top of the hill, Or the path through the wood or the stream by the mill; But the face that you glimpsed as it turned down the street Of the friend you had hoped that one day you would meet. You remember the ball game, the one when it rained, But not nearly as well as the fullback in pain— His face drawn in wrinkles around his blue eyes-- The lips tight with bravery the low moan belies. You remember a picnic held early in Spring, But mainly because of the smile and the ring; And the laughter that lit up soft eyes in the rain And a halo of gold round that face comes again To remind you of yesterdays passing away Down the halls of your youth where the bright faces stay-- The gay smiles and the frowns, the pleasures and pain You recall through the faces you see here again. This youthfulness served to bridge the communication gap that had previously existed between students and faculty. The Eagles got off to a slow start this year and fin- ished their season with a 2-7 record. McCune had the ability and enthusiasm to hit it off with a great season but after numerous injuries, found it hard to make a comeback. The Eagles played three 2-A schools, Liberal, Oswego, and Uniontown. Homecoming game was played against South Elk. McCune looks forward to a great sea- son next year with 10 returning lettermen. 32 M. Hiller, B. Pool, G. Nutt, S. Bennett, F. Ritchal, D. Parsons, T. Smith, D. Johnston; L. Thomas, R. Varner, J. Teamwork was the key to success for the McCune Eagles during the 1973 bas- ketball season. The boys never ceased to amaze their fans as they forged on to six wins in a row. Cries of WE'RE NO. 1 rang not only on the court but in the school as well. The McCune Eagles hosted the MBL tournament on their court and for the first time tasted the bitter agony of defeat when they fell to Oswego in the final game of the tourna- ment. The boys always looking to the future and never in the past went on to district with the goal of state on their minds. Praise enough can never be given to the fine job each boy perform- ed on the team.
