Mathematics 4 This year was basically the same as any high school year; we studied, had fun, experienced sad moments of trial and error. There were games and dances; voices were hoarse from Pep Club rooting. All shared the hopeless reality of exams, the semes- ter grades, and the noontime cafeteria rush. It is not today that you will appreciate the EAGLE. Tomorrow, when it is not so easy to think back on 1964, we will treasure the memories this book has stored for us. I would like to thank Mrs. Lawrence, our sponsor, and the annual staff who worked so hard to produce this EAGLE. Editor, Sponsored by LEON CROOKS, Parsons This 1964 EAGLE is a simple pictorial record of the events at McCune High during the 1963-64 school year. Each page will mean something different to each of you. The format has not been as important to us as has been our desire to please you. We hope you like the EAGLE and will like it even more in future years. Assistant Editor, MARK HOUSEWEART F.F.A. 1,2, 3, 4; F.F.A. President 4; F. F. A. We were determined to work hard and be the graduates of 1964. Our Freshman class was made up of these students: Mark Houseweart, Carolyn Stewart, Francis Thomas, Terry Best, Elaine Johnson, David Garard, Harriett Tridle, Shirley Johnson, Randy Joynson, Kathy Barnes, Danny Kirk, Carol Atkinson, Coralie Baldwin, Larry Gemmell, Ilene Froebe, Jimmy Gardenhire. Barbara Barnes. Billy Watson, Billy McWilliams, and Eva Joe Getman. We chose our class officers: president, Mark Houseweart; vice-president, Francis Thomas; and sec- retary-treasurer, Caroryn Stewart. For our candidate for Fall Festival, we chose Carol Atkinson. Bar- bara Barnes was elected FFA Queen her freshman year. Our sponsor was Mrs. Hollis. When we returned our sophomore year we were sorry to find that we lost Carol Atkinson, Billy Wat- son, and Billy McWilliams. Our class officers were: president, Francis Thomas; vice-president, David Garard, and secretary- treasurer, Elaine Johnson. Kathy Barnes was sophomore candidate for Fall Festival Queen. Carolyn Stewart was chosen cheerleader. Mrs. Gloss was our class sponsor. In our junior year we were happy to gain Richard Wallace but sorry we lost Danny Kirk, Eva Joe Getman, Elaine Johnson, and later on to loose Richard Wallace. David Garard, president; Randy Johnson, vice-president; and Kathy Barnes, secretary-treasurer were elected by our junior class as officers. Barbara Barnes was our Fall Festival Queen candidate. Mark Houseweart was FHA king. Shirley Johnson and Carolyn Stewart were candidates for basketball queen. House on the Cliff was the title for our junior play. It was presented by the following cast: David Garard, Kathy Barnes, Barbara Barnes, Shirley Johnson, Harriett Tridle, and Mark Houseweart, directed by our class sponsor, Mrs. Hollis. Mr. Schulz was our assistant sponsor. One of our biggest events in our junior year was presenting a junior-senior banquet, with the theme, Roaring Twenties” which was held in our high school auditorium. Everyone seemed to have a very en- joyable time. The last event in our 11th year was sponsoring an all-school spring dance. The theme of the dance was Spring has Sprung. Everyone danced to the music by Conny and the Bell-Hops. At last in 1964, we have reached our goal as Dignified Seniors but still we reach for higher goals. We're sorry to hear that we lost Francis Thomas but happy to gain Beverly Myers and Eva Joe Getman. Our class officers are as follows: president, Mark Houseweart; vice-president, Randy Johnson; sec- retary-treasurer, Carolyn Stewart; Fall Festival Queen candidate, Shirley Johnson, who was elected queen. Larry Gemmell was FHA King. Ilene Froebe received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award. Carolyn Stewart was elected cheerleader and a candidate for Miss Merry Christmas. Harriett Tridle was candidate for basketball queen. The following seniors have been together twelve years: David Garard, Coralie Baldwin, Harriett Tridle, Barbara Barnes, Carolyn Stewart, and Mark Houseweart. We have chosen for our class motto: It is a rough road which leads to great heights. ” Our class flower is the red rose and silver and blue are our colors. We would like to thank Mr. Schulz, our class sponsor and Mrs. Saliba, assistant sponsor, for making our senior year an enjoyable one. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. O'Neal, the faculty, our parents, and to the en- tire community for their assistance in preparing us for our life's work. We hope to make them proud of us. BEATRICE FOOD’S, Parsons, Kansas 46 DR.
