We were determined to work hard and become the MRHS graduates of 1963. After a few weeks we conquered that green freshman feeling and look of pity that upperclassmen have. We were fi- nally becoming organized. We had the following 27 students in our freshman class: Cheri Goff, Jack Graver, Sue Clarke, Kay Tridle, Joe Smith, Beverly Dalrymple, Jim Huff, Sondra Monroe, Lana Marchbanks, Janis Ratzlaff, Nikki Bell, Bobbie Wright, Mildred Ulbrich. Caro- lyn Foster, Jim Kirby, Judith Boor, Linda Kious, Betty Rose, Donna Morrison, Rufus Leonard, Brenda Zwahlen, Leon Baldwin, Louita Burk, Wanda Napier, Ronnie Pierce, Nancy Getman and Tom Niebaum. We chose as our class officers-, president, Jack Graver; vice-president, Cheri Goff; and secretary-treasurer, Sue Clarke. Our Fall Festival queen candidate was Judith Boor. Mrs. Closs was our sponsor. When we returned for our sophomore year, we were sorry to find we had lost Jack Graver. We also lost Wanda Napier the 2nd semester. We chose as our class officers: president, Ronnie Pierce; vice-president, Nikki Bell; and secretary-treasurer, Janis Ratzlaff. We chose Linda Kious as our Fall Festival queen candidate. Mrs. Closs was our sponsor. Our junior year we were sorry to have lost Ronnie Pierce and Lana Marchbanks. We chose as our class officers: president, Jim Huff; vice-president, Jim Kirby; and secretary-treasurer, Beverly Dalrymple. Mildred Ulbrich was our Fall Festival queen candidate. Mrs. Green was our class sponsor. Strike Three, our junior play, was presented by the following cast: Nikki Bell, Sue Clarke, Cheri Goff, Louita Burk, Beverly Dalrymple, Carolyn Foster, Brenda Zwahlen, Sondra Monroe, Kay Tridle, Jim Kirby, Jim Huff, Joe Smith, and Donna Morrison, directed by Mrs. Green. Sondra Monroe was chosen the basketball queen. This was the first year MRHS has had a basketball queen. Janis Ratzlaff and Nikki Bell were her attendants. Our Junior-Senior banquet, with the theme Flight to the Moon was held at Hotel Besse in Pittsburg. Everyone had a very enjoyable evening. At last in 1963, we have reached our goal with the title Dignified Seniors but now we reach for higher goals. We were sorry to lose Carolyn Foster, Brenda Zwahlen and Donna Morrison our sen- ior year. We chose as our class officers: president, Joe Smith; vice-president, Jim Huff; secretary-treasurer, Sondra Monroe. We were very happy that our Fall Festival queen candidate, Beverly Dalrymple, was chosen as our Fall Festival Queen. Our sponsors are Mrs. Lawrence and Mr. O'Neal. There are 12 of us who have attended MRHS for twelve years. They are Louita Burk, Judith Boor, Nikki Bell, Linda Kious, Janis Ratzlaff, Kay Tridle, Leon Baldwin, Rufus Leonard, Jim Huff, Mildred Ulbrich, Sue Clarke, and Sondra Monroe. For our senior play we chose Bachelor Bait directed by Mrs. Lawrence and pre- sented by the following cast: Joe Smith, Beverly Dalrymple, Kay Tridle, Sondra Mon- roe, Jim Huff, Nikki Bell, Jim Kirby, Janis Ratzlaff, and Bobbie Wright. We were happy that Sue Clarke was our basketball queen this year. We chose to go to Kirkwood Lodge for our senior trip. We left the school early in the morning on April 25, and returned on the 27th. We will always remember the fun we all had on our senior trip. We chose for our class motto, Face the sun and the shadows will fall behind. Our class flower is a pink rose. Lavender and silver are our class colors. As we are about to receive our diplomas of graduation, we wish to express our ap- preciation to the faculty and everyone who has helped us to reach our goal. We hope our parents, the faculty, the board of education, and our friends will be proud of our achievement in the future. 49 by Nikki Bell Glass JJropnec( Somewhere between our high school days and the time we begin to reminisce, lies the product or result of our lives. Whether we find enjoyment and satisfaction is up to each of us individually. We have just completed twelve years not only of education but of good times en- joyed by the whole class. What will another twelve years bring? At the Santa Anita Race Track Jim Kirby can usually be found. Not in the stands cheering for his favorite horse or betting on hunches at the $5.00 window, but he is either in the stable encouraging his jockeys or in the winners' ring having his picture taken with his world famous, prize winning horses. Kay Tridle, known on stage and screen as Kay Sharon, is currently flying to Egypt where she will be filming her new movie Daughter of Cleopatra. Mildred Ulbrich and Linda Kious are currently working in Judith's House of Fashion, owned by Judith Boor. Mildred and Linda are Judith's top designers of fashionable wed- ding gowns. Sue Clarke has recently joined the fim adding her talents as head book- keeper. Sue even helps out in the modeling department when she is needed. Their motto is Wear a gown from the House of Fashion and you'll be seen at your wedding. Exactly four months after graduation, one of our class members was showered with good fortune. Rufus Leonard, who took the time to help an old woman across the street, was left three million dollars in her will. Rufus donated almost half of this to Tom Neibaum's campaign fund. Tom ran for governor of Kansas and was elected. Most people said Tom reminded them of good 'ole Abe Lincoln. Nancy Getman has made her class members proud of her achievements in the news- paper field. Nancy has covered press conferences with such famous people as race horse owner Jim Kirby, movie star Kay Sharon, and Governor of Kansas Tom Neibaum. Beverly Dalrymple and Joe Smith operate their own resort in Colorado. They call it Smith's Health Farm. Currently registered at Smith's Health Farm is Sondra Monroe. Sondra is on her four week yearly paid vacation. That's just one of the good deals you get from the Navy, says Sondra. In the dry hot desert sits Jim Huff on the second hump of a skinny camel. No, Jim didn't join the foreign legion! He's just looking for another oil well to add to his list. Don't give up, Jim. You've done it before and you'll do it again. Somewhere in the deep dark jungle beats the heart of Cheri Goff. No, Cheri's not another Florence Nightingale. She married a butterfly collector. While he collects butterflies, Cheri teaches the natives better ways of sanitation. In exchange, the na- tives give Cheri small pieces of glass, which the white men call di-a-monds. Bobbie Wright has recently been honored with an award from the postoffice. Bob was voted outstanding postman of the year by the members of the Postmen-Stick-To- gether-Like-Stamps-on-a-Letter, Club. Along the California beach lies the blond and sun-tanned Betty Rose. When Betty isn't winning medals at water shows, she's teaching surf board riding to those who came to the shore for a free lesson. Jan Ratzlaff certainly went on to bigger and better things. Jan is a mountain climb- er. She was recently headlined in all the newspapers for saving the life of Louita Burk who had fallen in a crevasse on the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Louita explained that she had fallen in the crevasse while backing up to take a picture of the mountain. Working with Big Top Circus is Leon Baldwin. Leon is as famous as Clyde Beatty with his daring feats done with wild animals from all over the world. If you see bubbles coming up anywhere in the Atlantic Ocean they are sure to be followed by Nikki Bell. Nikki has just finished her latest book entitled, How I Reacted When My Schnorkel Became Clogged. We have chosen as our class motto, Face the Sun and the Shadows Will Fall Be- hind. As we face this sun, our future, the failures and fears we will encounter will be as shadows that fall behind. 50 by Jan Ratzlaff We, the Senior Class of 1963, of the city of McCune, the County of Crawford, and the State of Kansas, being of legally sound mind and lawful age, whereas we are about to depart as students from the McCune Rural High School, do hereby give, be- queath, and make public to our underclassmen, some of our most valued possessions. To the faculty, we leave our deepest gratitude for their guidance, understanding, and interest which they have given unselfishly. To the Juniors, we leave our position as top man on the ladder and our front row seats in the auditorium. To the Sophomores, we leave our ability to stand together as a class and uphold our ideals. To the Freshmen, we leave our ambition to climb successfully to the rank of Sen- ior. Leon Baldwin wills his ability to look innocent to Larry Gemmell. Nikki Bell wills her black and gold pleated skirt to Carolyn Stewart. Judith Boor wills her ability to keep her laughter inside her to Harriett Tridle. Louita Burk wills her speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil manner Coralie Baldwin. Sue Clarke wills her migrane headache from trying to get the annual together to Kathy Barnes. Beverly Dalrymple wills the empty blanks in her chemistry book to Mark House- weart. Nancy Getman wills her interest in Columbus to Delores Matthews providing the interest isn’t exactly the same ones. Cheri Goff wills her ability to get embarrassed over the most innocent behavior to Shirley Johnson. Jim Huff wills his contact lenses to anyone who doesn't have enough contacts. Linda Kious and Mildred Ulbrich will their ability to be alike in everything from dresses to future plans to Zelda Spillman and Carolyn Shepard. Jim Kirby wills the honor of being all-league back to Francis Thomas. Sondra Monroe wills her nickname of Blond Bomber to anyone who has enough atoms. Tom Niebaum wills his ability to be just a little bit ornery to Jim Gardenhire. Betty Rose wills her gum-popping ability to anyone who wants to be a hobby pop- per. Joe Smith wills his position as president of the senior class, student council, and FFA to anyone who can fill his shoes (size 10 1 2). Rufus Leonard wills his pilot license for his car to Terry Best. Kay Tridle wills her ever-changing mood to Ilene Froebe. Bobbie Wright wills his place on the front steps with Sheryl McColm to Sheryl and no one else. And I, Jan Ratzlaff, will my eccentricities to anyone who wants to take the calcu- lated risk. Thus, we, the Seniors of 1963, have disposed of some of our personalities, posses- sions, and honors to our underclassmen, and do hereby set our seal this twenty-third of May, one thousand nine-hundred and sixty-three. 51 1.
