The McCune Chapter of Future Homemakers of America, consisting of 45 members of which 14 are new members, has begun carrying out the program of work for 1957-58. Our chapter has been an active chapter this year with the girls participating willingly and carrying their responsibilities very well. Our club received an honor chapter award for its work from Miss Helen Scheve, our State advisor, at our District meeting in Independence. McCune will be well represented at the State F. H. A. Meeting at Topeka where Marietta McGown will preside as State President of the Kansas Future l-iomemakers' Organization. Our chapter mothers, Mrs. Evelyn Samp and Mrs. Kathleen Rentfro, and our chapter advisor, Mrs. Almeda Closs, will accompany us on this trip. Our program of work is based on the state and national programs of work. The club contributed to the Coston Home near Girard and a CARE package to be sent overseas. We have programs planned on Safety, Teenage Consumers, Family Relations, and Careers in Home Economics. Our social activities included a combined Halloween party-Freshman initiation, a Christmas party, and a mother-daughter banquet. Our money-raising projects were a joint F. H. A. -F. F. A. box supper and the selling of Christ- mas corsages. Our F. H. A. float received fourth place in the Fall Festival parade. We have enjoyed this year very much and we want to thank Mr. Barker, the teachers, and the com- munity for their co-operation throughout the year. This is an increase of 14 over last year. A course in senior agriculture was offered with 10 enrolling. The freshman class had 16 boys, which was the reason for the larger enrollment this year. There are 44 boys in the McCune F. F. A. chapter as Alan Hobson is still a member. Officers elected for this year include President, Paul Iohnsong Vice President, Vernon Egbertg Secre- tary, Tommy Stocker: 'I'reasurer, Billy Trotnicg Reporter, Bill Barnesg and Sentinel, George Allen. The first important event of the year was the trip to the state fair at Topeka. All the junior agricul- ture boys and most of the seniors attended. The group went Sunday, Sept. 15 and came back on Monday At the fair they saw a demonstration on livestock judging, two grandstand performances, including horse racing, farm shop exhibits and agricultural booths. The youth fair, held Sept. 28 in connection with the annual fall festival, was larger this year with 35 livestock entries, 35 crop entries, and 23 farm mechanics exhibits. The dairy show this year was especially good with some fine entries. A tractor driving contest for men was held in addition to the regular student tractor driving contest. The officers gave the opening ceremony ritual for the first regular assembly of the year held Monday October 'lth. 'I'hey went to Fredonia that evening for the annual leadership school. The McCune boys ranked 10th among the 23 schools in the ritual contest. The sophomore F. F. A. boys attended the national F.F. A. convention in Kansas City for two days. Some of the officers went up for one day. Highlights of the convention included a speech by former President Harry S. Truman, a tour of Kansas City and a special show by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. As a community service project the F. F. A. boys built a rock retaining wall around the scout yard and leveled the yard. In November the annual F. F. A. -F. H. A, boxsupper was held which netted a profit of 3140. 00 for each organization. Most of the program was given by students from our own school. In shopwork this year several of the boys are constructing arc welders. Other projects include tractor motor overhaul, cattle feeders, gates, etc. The freshman boys have charge of feeding the F. F.A. sow and litter. It is planned that the gilts will be loaned to a boy for a livestock project. At the present time the rodent contest is underway. Other activities for the year will include a banquet, speaking contest, farm mechanics contest, and judging contests. The 1957 football season found the Eagles opening practice with a squad of 33 men which included 12 lettermen. In the season opener against St. Mary's CPirtsburgj the Eagles started fast with Ron Holden scoring on the first play of the game with a 75 yard run. Leading throughout the game, the Eagles bid to end St. Mary's eighteen game winning streak was ruined, as St. Mary's scored in the final minute of play to win 19-13. The following week the Eagles contributed their share to make the Fall Festival a success by running over Weir 34-6. To open league play the Eagles traveled to Cherokee where they rolled over the Braves 27-6. The Eagles then dropped their next league game to Frontenac by the score of 12-13. Here the Eagles figured in a football rarity by not allowing Frontenac a first-down in a losing cause. The next game found the Eagles running roughshod over Oswego 47-12, Holden, Lahey, Zuck, Sumpter and Johnson all contributed to the scoring. In the final two games of the season the Eagles lost to Arma and then defeated Girard 13-'7 to end the season. In the All-Star balloting at the close of the season, Paul Johnson, Chauncey Shepard, Ron Holden, Lorn Lahey and Jim Frazier were chosen on the All Cee Cee league team with Loren Zuck, Richard Iron- side and Richard Morgan receiving honorable mention. The lettermen for the 1957 season are: C. Allen, L. Brown, H. Davidson, V. Egbert, J. Frazier, R. Holden, R. Ironside, P. Johnson, L. Lahey, D. Moore, R. Morgan, R. Parsons, L. Sartin, C. Shepard, E.
