W,,., . . or the 20 girls who make up the var- sity and junior varsity cheerleading squads, the year has been filled with many tears of joy and pain, hours of hard work, and giggles of laughter. The cheer- leaders had many new and exciting ex- periences this year. The varsity squad was runner-up at the NCA cheerleader camp this past summer. Four cheer- . ...,, ,, ,,. way., ,Z ..L, if -H.. T it is leaders nominated for All-American Cheerleader, Most importantly this was the first year that the varsity was able to combine and work with the junior varsity to form the very first large cheerleading squad. All 20 girls worked together to make pep rallies bigger and better. They competed at re- gional competition and moved on to com- ., Y s u ,ng- ,ai Bonnie Hayworth and Connie Arrington share spirit with Klein cheerleaders. The large varsity is comin' at ya. The Highsteppers were chosen to represent the United States, and to join other drill teams all over the world to perform, and to tour Tokyo for two weeks. Jo Lynelle Vanover and Sara Mueller reach for the sky during halftime. This invitation is the highest honor we have ever received, and is to be shared by every girl who has ever been a High- stepper. We were selected by the Jap- anese because of twelve years of con- tinued excellencej' says Kathy Harlan, sponsor. Captain Kelly Dean, The 1987 Miss Drill Team USA, was one step ahead of the other Highsteppers, Japan was whe she was crowned First Runner-Up ' Miss Drill Team International.
