Competition between members of the chess club and other schools gives the student an opportunity to build self- confidence. Members of the chess club apply their knowledge in both inter-school and intra- school tournaments. The members must attend weekly meetings and practice ses- sions. This gives them a chance to check out their mate s. Chess teaches the students to an- alyze their failures by pinning down their mistakes, so that in the end, they will rise above mediocrity, said Charles Ervin, sponsor.
