October 23-24 the speech department sponsored its first TFA State Qualifying tournament. More than 600 community volunteers judged the 700 competing students from different 4- A and 5-A high schools. With a lot of hard work, time, and effort, the tournament turned out to be a huge success, said Mike Muskat, secretary. B. J. Hydes and Flichard Stovall study up on their debate, Last summer the speech department set some difficult go including qualifying enough students for the state speech tt nament and to be ranked as one of the top 10 speech squad the state. This is the best group of students in the history of l Cullough speech, said Linda Kovach, sponsor. The staff has won awards from the Co- lumbia Scholastic Press Association, ln- terscholastic League Press Conference, the University interscholastic League and state universities. Other publications have moved up to first and then fallen. We hope to be number one this year. Students control all aspects of the Caledonian's production: finance, adver- tising, design, interviewing, writing, edit- ing, typesetting and paste-up.
