Don Gutierrez, Chris Duffield, and Jeff Whitmer work from many different angles on Project Space Statio l I l n I 4 1 he realistic ream reams really do come true. Jerry Berndardt dreamed of having a Space Lab here, and his drafting, wood, and metal shop classes changed that dream into reality. The students were accepted by ap- plication to be the crew of Project Space Station for the 72-hour mission on March 21-24. While aboard the space station, the astronauts performed experiments that were developed by students. Project Space Station was designed to 2 4 incorporate participation from the entire school. The wood technology classes built 28 containers and they also helped construct the station. The homemaking department designed the uniforms, cre- ated and prepared the food, the High- steppers created a workout video tape, and the business department handled the projects accounting, Don Gutierrez described Project Space Station as being a really neat learning experience because for once, instead of just drawing it, we built and lived it. The motto of Project Space Stati was: I hear and I forget I see and I remember I do and I understand The students are learning and gaini knowledge through experience abc something that can easily be applied the outside world, said Bernhardt.
