Speech: Raquel Silverberg 'l ' 1 1h if eaving at five in the morning, spend- ing a long, tiring day at a high school and not returning home until after widnight is only half of what Raquel Lilverberg goes through to compete in a peech tournament. The other half is pending hours upon hours reciting and iemorizing speeches, This may not ound too fun, but it is to Silverberg, Speech has taught me a great deal bout myself and others, Silverberg said. As president this year, I was proud to lirect and host lvlcCullough's first Texas orensic Association State qualifying tournament. The three months if planning and preparation seemed well worth the effort when the 50 contestants and over 600 judges congregated for one of the iiggest events that McCullough had ever hosted, T During her four years of speech, Silverburg has qualifed twice for tate and has been ranked fourth in East Texas. But others, those ambitious few, work hard to excel and to be known, As did Erin Nealy. Although she has only been here two years, Erin Nealy has left her mark on Mc- Cullough. As president of the National Honor Society Nealy has been responsible for helping to organize the annual food drive, open house, freshman orientation, etc. She is also active in Interact, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, Psychology, Ge- ology, FBLA and yearbook staff, in which she serves as managing editor and organizations editor. l've learned to be organized, to set goals and to meet them, she said. l've had the opportunity to learn how to run an organization from the bottom up. lt's satisfy- ing. Nealy plans to attend college and major in business and journalism.
