SepTember I938. for ThaT was The day ThaT ThirTy-sixrof us. all wild. noisy boys and girls came slowly To school To enroll aT The McCray-Dewey Township High School for The firsT Time. ThaT was a day mixed wiTh sorrow and ioy. of happiness and unhappiness. We will always remember how we marched inTo The office. iusT plain old Freshiies andi how mosT of us meT Mr. Farley for The firsT Time. He was The principal. AfTer becoming familiar wiTh The school. we began To feel aT home buT all Throughouf The year we were Teased and TormenTed because we were Green . AT our firsT class meeTing we felT like big shoTs and quiTe imporTanT. AT This meefing we elecifed Mn,,1Siffei-man as our Class Advisor and The honor of being The firsT presidenT of our class Tell To Gene Lyons. Our acTiviTies for The year were a hike, and a Hallowe'en ParTy. 1 939Q1 940 The school year I939-I94O began a new life for us for we felT more grown up and we Tried To acT The parT buT somehow we were sTill kids and did everyfhing wiTh much ado. Mr. Farley was noT in The office when we enfered To enroll buT in his place we found anoTher man whom we Iafer found ouT was our new principal. Mr. Kefring. We walked up To Th-e assembly buT found The school differenT somehow. for There were many new faces and Two new Teachers. Miss Koeneke had married during The summer and Wss, Baker had Taken her place: Miss Molden accepTed anoTher posiTion and Miss Baumann was The new English Teacher. Miss Herron came in January when Miss Baumann lefT. Miss Baker was now chosen our class advisor and Richard Howe served as class PresidenT. The acTiviTies of The year consisTed of a hike. a ValenTine ParTy. and a skaTing parTy. 1940-1941 Sepfember l940 found us back here for The Third Time. Mr. Brucker had been added To The Teaching sfaff and iT was To be his job To Try To Teach us MahemaTics. We all Took a liking To Mr. Brucker or aT leasT iT seemed so, for aT our firsT class m.eeTing of The year we elecTed him To The posiTion of sponsor of The Junior class of I94O-'4I. Virginia Schrameck was chosen presidenT of The class. This year Mr. Kefring organized The Hi-Tri and Hi-Y clubs which sponsored The firsf ChrisTmas parTy and dance. The oTher acTiviTies of The year were a hike. a Hallowe'en parTy. The Junior play. and The Junior-Senior Prom. 1941 -1 942 Now we are seniors and can reminice happily of pasT incidenTs in our school limes. We can see how four years ago, Those wild and noisy boys and girls came inTo The school and for The lasT Time. Sepfember I. I94l. we walked proudly up To The office and greeTed our old friends and welcomed The new scholars. We had been coming To school for The pasT Three years. and This regisTraTion day was similar To The oTher Three. Mr. Fischer had replaced Mr. Seifferman: Miss Hall was unable To reTurn To her posiTion so Miss Sims was in her place. Mr. Monke was here To Till The posiTion of Mr. Wagner. Mr. Monke ioinied The navy and his place was filled for Two weeks by Mr. Cole. AT ThaT Time Mr. Richards replaced Mr. Cole. ln January. afTer The ChrisTmas holidays. we were surprised To learn ThaT Miss Lenz had accepfed anoTher posiTion and ThaT on reTurning we would find a new commercial Teacher. Miss Villhard. Gene STein was elecTed presidenT of The Senior class aT The beginning of The year, however Jack Weirgwho had been elecTed Vice President acTed as The presidenT ThroughouT The year and on April I3 was formally made presidenT and Roy WiTTmann was made vice-presidenT. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY KENNETH HIANFELDER, The presidenT oT The Coca-Cola BoTTIing Company aT Milwaukee, decided ThaT he'd like To Take his annual six-monTh vacaTion. He and his aTTracTive secreTary, DOROTHY HEINLEIN, immediaTely made plans Tor The Trip. The buTler, VERNON SCHULTZE, who was a Tall, bald-headed man, called a Taxi To Take KenneTh and DoroThy To The sTaTion. To Their asTonishmenT They Tound ThaT The Taxi driver 'was ROY WITTMAN, a serious-minded man who was Their class- maTe in l942. As Roy drove Them along in his Super Duper Taxi, he menTioned To Them ThaT he had iusT received a IeTTer Trom his girl Triend, VIRGINIA WEISEMEYER, who was now a haT check girl aT The swanky MayTair Casino aT Cleveland, Ohio. When They arrived aT The sTaTion, They goT on The Train and abouT Two minuTes laTer The Train sTarTed oTT. Thiey were headed wesT so Their TirsT sTop was Omaha, Nebraska. AT Omaha They were given ThirTy minuTes in which They could geT ouT and 'walk around. KenneTh iusT Tinished saying, l wish There were someone in This Town ThaT I knew, so I could visiT Them and pass The Time, when he spied The mos+ gorgeous looking couple. BeTore The Train leTT, KenneTh boughT a newspaper. The Omaha Daily Tribune. As he glanced over The paper, a cerTain heading aTTracTed his aTTenTion. IT read: MADiA,ME DORIS BINNEY, noTed conTraITo oT The MeTropoliTan Opera Company oT New York -will make a personal appearance aT The Palace TheaTer nexT week. This headline broughT back memories oT olden days since Doris was also one oT KenneTh's classmaTes. Soon Th-e Train 'was headed wesT again. This Time The sTop was To be aT Denver, Colorado. ATTer a conTinuous ride Tor abouT a half a day, They Tinally reached Denver. This sTop was To be an hour long so KenneTh and DoroThy sTarTed walking To see some inTeresTing places. As They passed The Denver UniversiTy, They noTiced a Track Team pracTicing. They sTopped To waTch Them Tor a while and became so inTeresTed They -didn'T even noTice ThaT The coach had come up To greeT Them. AT TirsT KenneTh couIdn'T Think of who he was buT he knew ThaT he had seen him before. Why, oT course. IT was Coach JACK WEIR. Jack, as well as KenneTh, and DoroThy was pleasanTly surprised. Jack menTioned ThaT The MaTh Teacher aT The UniversiTy was BETTY JANE THOMAS, a quieT, shy lady, so They wenT in To see her while They had a liTTIe Time. As usual, all BeTTy Talked abouT was BuTch who was sTill waiTing Tor her. BeTTy's liTTle chaT abouT BuTch was so inTeresTing ThaT Kenn-eTh and DoroThy missed The Train To SaIT Lake CiTy. KenneTh wenT To a phone booTh To call The airporT To make reservaTions on a plane. When The operaTor said, Number Please, her voice sounded Tamiliar and so Kennern said, l'm KenneTh Hanfelder. Your voice sounded so Tamiliar ThaT I ThoughT sure I knew you. The operaTor said, Why KenneTh, you should recognize my voice insTanTly. l'm EERN KUEKER. Fern Talked a shorT while abouT old school days and Then she made The reservaTions Tor KenneTh. ATTer They were seaTed comTorTabIy in The plane, The piloT sTepped in. He was Tall and handsomely dressed in a piloT uniTorm. He glanced aT KenneTh and said, Why Mr. Hanfelcler and Miss H-einlein. Or is iT Mrs. HanTelder? KenneTh was quick To recognize ThaT The piloT was none oTher Than GENE LYONS. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY IT Took Them only a shorT Time and They were in SalT Lake CiTy. IT was Terribly hoT so The firsT Thing They did was To go down To The lake To swim. KenneTh, who di'dn'T know much abouf swimming, wenT ouT in The deeper parT of The lake and a broad-shouldered red-haired lifeguard said GeT over in The shallow water wiTh The babies where you belong. Kennefh gave one look aT The liTeguard and said, Why BOB TAAKE. don'T you even know me? Bob was surprised and answered. Sorry, old man, abouT The way I Talkedl To such a swell guy. lnsTead of going in The shallow wafer, KenneTh goT ouT of The waTer and spenT The nexT few hours Talking wiTh Bob abouT all The oTher classmafes he had meT on ThaT Trip. There was only one Time in The whole conversaTion ThaT They sfopped Talking. ThaT was when Two gorgeous looking baThing beauTies came ouT To swim. IAII KenneTh could say was Oh My. They were so slim and good-looking in Their suiTs. Bob said, I wish I knew Them. As if in answer To his wish. The girls sTroIIed around in fronT of Kennefh and Bob. When Their eyes meT, The four of Them almosT fell in The lake They were so surprised. The glamorous girls were PEGGY MODENE and EMMA BENAK. They were models aT a high-class dress shop in SalT Lake Cify. Bob Taake direcfed KenneTh and DoroThy To a small cafe where They planned To eaT. They were welcomed by The owners, a charming couple, Mr. and Mrs. BILL LEWIS, The former GlNNY POLI. Mrs. Lewis was iusT as Tiny and cuTe as ever. IT was geTTing quiTe Ia+e so Kennefh and DoroThy hurried and Took a plane To Hollywood. IT was here They meT The biggesT surprises of all. As They were walking across The loT of The ParamounT STudios, Producer VIRGIL GEBHART, now an even greaTer producer Than The laTe Cecil B. DeMille, meT Them. KenneTh was speechless because he couldn'T imagine why PeTe should Turn down such a wonderful job aT The bowling alleys aT Troy iusT To be- 8 producer. PeTe seemed To be quiT5e saTisfied Though because he could consTanTly be wiTh his c,uTe secreTary and also his swieeThearT CATHERINE KUNKEL. PeTe said. You remember PAUL RIEBOLD don'T you? KenneTh said. Why. yes. PeTe replied, Well, he's here in Hollywood Too. l'd suiggesf ThaT you go To see him buT righT nofw he's' preTTy busy and confused. Tomorrow affernoon he's going To marry Shirley Temple. Kennefh decided ThaT since he couldn'T visiT Mr. Riebold, he would call him on The phone iusT To leT him know ThaT he was in Hollywood. As he enTered The Hollywood R-exall Drug STore where he inTen-ded To make The call, a shorl' genfleman, The owner, who had black, wavy hair and a liTTle musTache like Clark Gable. sTepped forward quickly and said. WhaT can I do for you? Before KenneTh could answer, The owner, MEARLE WOHLGEMUTH spoke again, Why. KenneTh, how are you? He was The same old Mearl. JusT as lively and pleasanT as he was when he worked in The drug sTore in Troy. There were many Things ThaT Paul and Shirley had To do before The wedding. The ceremony and recepfion plans had To be compleTed and The ouTfiTs had To be bought Miss Temple wenT To geT her gown from The famous dress designer, GENEVA WOOTEN. When sh-e came back. RICHARDS The training in vocational agriculture as carried on at the Troy High School under State and Fed- eral Supervision, endeavors to contribute to the educational needs ot the community by conducting courses in vocational agriculture tor high school students, classes tor out ot school boys, termed part-time school. and evening school in adult education. At Troy, -we hope to malce our worlc in agricul- ture, detinite, comprehensive and practical. We want our program to serve the community in a way that the people will be able to develop new abili- ties and new attitudes in anticipation ot new situations in the field ot agriculture. Farming is a method ot living as well as a busi- ness. Special training in vocational agriculture must necessarily contain material that will train the student tor slcilltul operative processes required- tarming tor managerial abilities and tor civic and home obligations. As has been suggested by our State Leaders in vocational agriculture. the Troy High School Agri- culture Department is going to have to do its part in this war emergency of our country or some other agency is going to do what it should have done. e Home Economics Club The Home Economics Club was organized on November 26, l94l.
