QL A yi, ,M ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY SEN IORS CLASSES SPORTS ACTIVITIES ADVERTISEMENTS Four long years ago we started to high school as freshmen anxiously awaiting the day when We could say I'm a seniorf, At last that day has arrived and those four long years, now seem very, very short. During our high school days We have enjoyed many class activities, athletic events, and many other accomplishments. In presenting this yearbook we hope to show, in a small Way, some of the unforgettable memories of our high school life. l Lites to Miss Geraldine Thomas. The Senior Class of McConnellsburg Joint High School proudly dedicates this 1957 edition of Flash- lites to Miss Geraldine Thomas. Her untiring patience and understanding manner in dealing with our class has borne witness to the out- standing character she possesses. We hope in the days to come we may reflect the spirit she has revealed and practice the truths she has shown. D. ALVIN PETE CRCUSE The Senior Class of 1957 wishes to pay special tribute to the memory of a person whose familiar face has long been a part of the McConnellsburg High School scene. Mr. Crouse spent 26 continuous years keeping the school plant neat, homelike and acceptable for all. Perhaps the greatest tribute We can pay to Pete is in saying, He made our years in school much more cheerful and is deeply missed by students and faculty alike. Admin tration wiv MV 1' . FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Boys of grades nine through twelve are enrolled in the F.F.A. which gives its members the opportunity to participate in local, state, and national contests. In January at the annual initiation ceremony, nine members were added to the local chapter. Since the requirements for membership include carrying approved projects, most of the boys have completed six to ten projects by the end of the senior year.'Project winners compete with boys throughout the state and have won high honors. Competition is also keen at area and state fairs as well as the Farm Show, to which james Gordon was named chapter delegate. The selling of rat poison in the annual fall drive in addition to the usual spring sale of onion sets have increased the treasury. The members will add flower bulbs and straw- berries to their sales projects. All members enjoy a banquet at the close of each school year. President. . .... ..,...,.,,...,.,.......,.......,,.,. VARSITY BASKETBALL McConnellsburg high cagers had a very rough season for 56-57. There were five seniors comprising the starting line-up, and although our loss record was much greater than our win record, these boys will be missed next year. The Kove League was exceptionally strong this season and McConnellsburg found itself on the bottom for the first time in the league history. The boys took their defeats in stride and were always trying, showing good sportsmanship and respect for others. Of this they can be proud. Most of our Wins were from teams from across the T uscorara, from whom We Won approximately six games. As in soccer, the five most valuable players lost were William Tritle, Robert Kendall, Richard Ray, Fred Sheeder, and Willis Kerlin. JUNIOR VARSITY Coach Fries j.V.,s, from an inexperienced team of freshmen and sophomores, have emerged a group that will carry on the excellent record of the Blue Devils. WHITE ANGELS The 1957 girls' basketball team will lose two members by graduation. Thus next year's varsity six will be made up of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have received training in skill and sportsmanship. The White Angels have had a rather trying season but the points they have scored have added greatly to their experience. Gail Hann was the high scorer in the majority of the games. The events in which our girls participate are the 50 yard dash, 75 yard dash, standing broad jump, running broad jump, high jump, and a 440 yard relay comprising eight runners on each team. r The prospects for the coming season looks fairly good as we have a number of girl athletes in the under-classes. . ,,.,.,.,,, ,, , , -ww, f I M4 - f'i Back Row: George Morton, Stanley Mellott, LeRoy Buterbaugh, Gerald Ramsey, George Shearer, Melsome Oliver, Rodney Burrall. SGCCER McConnellsburg's soccer team had a successful season this year by winning six games, losing three, and tying two. There was no Fulton County League this season, but had there been our boys would have captured the crown as the county schedule was practically the same as when the league was operating. Two of our three losses were to a Franklin County League team, 0-2 and 1-2, who went undefeated in league play and eventually won the District Three soccer championship. William Tritle, Fred Sheeder, Richard Ray, Willis Kerlin, and Robert Kendall were the seniors lost by graduation from the starting eleven and they will be hard to replace. Dave Kendall and Elvin Huntsberger, first line substitutes, who gave a good account of themselves, were also lost via graduation. First Row: Marie Seburn, Lou Sipes, Kathy Hill, Doris Harris, Sharon Mellott, Joan Hann, Patsy Peck, Alma Shives. The softball team, organized in the spring of 1956, had a successful season in view of the fact that the girls had had no previous experience. The team played Greenhill, Huston- town, and Fannett-Metal. This fall twenty-three girls, whom Mr. McLaughlin coaches during physical educa- tion class and activity period, practiced for the spring games.
