Student Council added a new flair to this year's Christmas dance by renting the L egion Hall. Committees met in order to pick a theme for the dance, which became Winter Wonderland. They worked long and hard in making the decorations. A giant snowman stuffed with kleenexes was the main project. Hundreds of snowflakes were cut out during study halls by many students. Music for the evening was provided by the Eastwood Stage Band and the Chamber Singers. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause, alias Mr. and Mrs. Peter Smith, opened the dance. Santa couldn 't grant all the wishes, but nobody left his lap frowning. Suckers were some of the treats he passed out. Couples at the dance elected Susan Smith to reign as Snowball Queen for the evening. Top: Mike Peterson, Ed Aller, Ray Crane, Skip Peterson, manager Jay Snyder. This year's basketball record didn 't pro ve to be one of great victory, but wins aren 't everything. For one thing the team was very young. Al- though they did loose some games they were very exciting games. Most of the game scores were like ping pong.' they went back and forth. McComb would lead, then go behind, then come back again to capture the lead. The team was led by junior Skip Peterson, who was the highest scoring junior in the records of McComb basket- ball history. Dave Aller, Joe Latta, and Ray Crane, all seniors, received awards for their out- standing acheivements. This year's team should be congratulated on their hard work and great efforts. All the conference teams were tough this year, and the Panthers, led by tri-captains Dave Aller, Ray Crane, and Joe Latta, just couldn 't pull through with a winning sea- son. The gridders ended with a 2-7 mark. Although most of the games were lost by a wide margin, a few were close ones. Both vistories had the score of 7-6,' those games were with Arcadia and Vanlue. One cannot judge a team by its record, however. They were much improved over last years team. Several players were noted players in the conference and re- ceived honors. Bill Clark led the Panthers and was seventh in the conference in rushing with 527 yards on 724 carries. Ray Crane led the conference in pass inter- ceptions with 6 for 724 yards. Bill John- son followed with 5 interceptions for 80 yards. Crane and Johnson also led the conference in kick-off returns with an average of 29 yards. Steve Colburn ended the season with 7 77 tackles for a second placement in the conference. Duane Leader was placed on the Blanchard Valley Conference's second team for his fine performance as offensive guard. The wrestlers traveled again to the Milan-Edison Tourney. Taking a first was Kevin Rettig. Seconds were Dan Rader and Peanut Newcomer. McComb placed second to Arcadia in the Van Buren Classic. Twelve teams participated in this. Peanut Newcomer, Kevin Rettig, and Lee Lora got firsts. Darryl Newcomer got a second. The Hancock County meet was a tough one. lt was dedicated to the memory of Bruce Harden. McComb again finished second to Arcadia. Peanut Newcomer, Dan Rader, Kevin Rettig, Frank Shoop, and Lee Lora got first place standings. Darryl Newcomer and Duane Leader received second place honors. ln sectionals, Kevin Rettig and Lee Lora were stopped at districts and did not go on to state. New wrestling uniforms were purchased. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harden, along with donations in memory of Bruce Harden, enabled the team to purchase a new wrestling mat. Another attraction was the mat maids. They kept stats and cheered for the wrestlers. Money making projects, practices, and matches kept the maids quitebusy. Award winners this year were Duane Leader, most improved Dan Rader and Kevin Rettig tied for the most takedowns with 26 each, Kevin Rettig and Lee Lora tied for most pins with nine each. Many of the games they lost went into extra innings and had one, two, or three run differences. ln the Hrst tourna- ment game against Van Buren, McComb won by a score of 8-3, with Skip Peterson getting a victory. The next tournament game was disappointing with a 2-77 defeat by North Baltimore. One of the outstanding baseball players this year was Skip Peterson. His record, 4-8, didn't tell anything. His earned run average was the best for McComb this year at 7. 77. VWth his great abilities, he received the Most Valuable Player's award of McComb and he also won the M. The usual five teams were changed to just two, varsity and reserve, because of joining the Blanchard Valley Conference. The varsity squad, led by captain Kathy Martin, rallied to a second place standing in the BVC. Games were played every Monday at 4: 75. The teams didn 't have many spectators, but the ones they had were loyal. lt is hoped that next year, volleyball will draw bigger crowds, as more people will be aware of its existence. The 1976 Junior Class presented the comedy stage per- fromance The Campbells are Coming. Stage hands got into the act this year by trying to slip a real fishworm in a sandwich which was to be considered fake. Makeup provided a real challenge. Many of the cast members were made up to resemble old hillbillies, sophisticated women, and even a hillbilly sweetheart. Rev. Hugh Bowland added a professional look to the cast members. Many thanks are in order to all of those who made the Junior Class Play an over- whelming success. Any student presently or formerly enrolled in Spanish is a member of this organization. Meetings are at the homes of the members and were informal and pleasant. Food which originated in Mexico or Spain, provided delicious refresh- ments. Mrs. Connie Honesto was a guest speaker at one of the meetings. Her topic consisted of Ouincianeras H5-year-old coming out to par- tiesl. The celebration begins with mass, followed by a meal and then a dance. Dressed usually in pink or yellow, the girl has 74 attendants each representing a year of her life. With the ending of the year, Spanish Club, put on a banquet featuring Mexican or Spanish cuisine. 'iff' V SPRING IS COMING Bluebird comes in to awaken the sleeping Pussy Willows, telling them that Spring is coming. They protest shivering but finally wake up and sing, and talk. Suddenly Jack Frost and his Elves come in to plan a party in the fields scattering the Pussy VWllows and deciding to freeze them as part of the fun. This is interrupted by Bluebird, but they will not permit Spring to come. They defy herg and when Spring's maidens appear with her crown these are captured by Jack Frost and hidden in his ice cave. Various groups of Spring 's people come to demand the maiden 's release and warn Jack Frost of punishment but he is still defiant till the Sunshine Fairies appear to check him. Then the Brownies capture him and take him to Spring who banishes him to the Northland after which Spring is crowned by her people and all are happy. Mrs. Allesandrini was director. Accompanist was Paula Smith. Miss Wilkinson directed the dancers and Mrs. Eamoe the scenery. The runner was Melissa Norway. The grand finale. Mrs. Jacob brings the class to the stage.
