CLASS HISTCRY Well Seniors, here we are on the threshold of life after four years of happiness starting Fall 1954 and ending Spring 1958. Now, suddenly it's all over, and we find ourselves looking back on these last four wonderful years. In the fall of 1954, 38 inexperienced Freshmen started the year by electing the following officers: President - Roger Orwick, Vice-President - Fred Altstaetter, Secretary -Treasurer - Anita Kurtz, Historian - Mary Haughn, Reporter - Jack Myers. Our Advisor was Mr. White. In October we were sorry to lose Linda Martin and Franklin Sterling, but we were happy to welcome John and Jay Rea to our class. So we still have 38 students in our class. This year we chose as our class colors white and blue and our class flower red carnation. Our motto Forward Ever, Backward Never. As Sophomores we have climbed one more step in school life. There were 36 Sophomores looking forward to selecting flashy and beautiful class rings. We elected the following officers for this school year: President - Roger Orwick, Vice-President - Jack Myers, Secretary - Anita Kurtz, Treasurer - Ruth Leader, Historian - Mary Haughn, Reporter - Rosie Wasson. Our advisor this year was Mr. Schmunk. We were sorry to lose Arden Rader and glad to gain Jerry Smith and Franklin Sterling. As Juniors we began the year with 36 students and elected the following: President - Jack Myers, Vice-President - Roger Orwick, Secretary - Anita Kurtz, Treasurer - Ruth Leader, Reporter -Jerry Smith Historian - Mary Ellen Adams, and our class adivsor Miss Painter. We were sorry to lose Carol Butler, John and Jay Rea, but glad to welcome June Hile, November 2, we presented the play Down To Earth which was enjoyed by all. As money making projects we sold Christmas cards and sold refreshments at some of the ballgames. We were proud of the number of boys that went out for sports. Mary Ellen Adams was elected cheer- leader. In May, we carried on the tradition and entertained the Seniors. At last we climbed our last step. Our Senior year. We began our senior year with 33 students. We were sorry to lose June Hile, Lola Davis, and Ruthann Buchanan. We chose as our class officers: President - Roger Orwick, Vice President - Jack Myers, Secretary - Ruth Leader, and Treasurer - Anita Kurtz. We were honored to have Miss Painter as our class advisor once again. We were proud to have Mary Stoepfel, chosen by the student body, to reign as Homecoming Queen. Early in the year we went to Fostoria, Ohio, to have our class pictures taken and found it to be a memorable occasion. We worked hard this year to finance our class trip. We saved tax stamps, had concessions at the basketball games, and sold Herald subscriptions. Our play Finders Creepers was a success. We found ourselves, all too soon, ending our school career. A banquet by the Juniors on May 17th, Baccalaureate and Commence- ment on May 18th and we were ready on June lst for a glorious, long awaited, trip to Washington and New York. This was the closing of our high school days for the Class of 1958. b 20
