Signed: The Senior Class of 1957 Larry Inbody Mark Deerwester Lynne Miller Beverly Shoop iv. SAGER MOTOR SALES, CHEVROLET and OLDSMOBILE, Deshler, Ohio SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Our story starts as two up and coming rock and roll stars Larry Cool Cat Mapes and Jerry Jerky Foot Foltz decide to go out west for a vacation. Go- ing with them is the rest of their bandj Ronald Fidgety Fingers Hale and Dan The Drummer Man Dietrich. They decide to take a fleet of cabs known as the Klingler Klankey Kllmkers owned and operated by Larry Kling- ler. Anne Andonian and Lynne Miller are drivers for the cross-country trip. Going through the colorful western country, they come to a small town called Richardsville, run by the very successful gambler, Wilbur Roulette Richards. While in Richardsville, they stop for gas at Gallant's Gas Garage, operated by Darrell Gallant, and decide to spend the night at Hermon's Home for Hungry Hermits. Here they meet the caretaker Bud Sherick, who tells them about Inbody's Peaceful Panther Dude Ranch. It seems the ranch's en- tertainers have decided to leave and Larry needs someone to fill in for awhile while. The boys talk it over and decide they'll try anything once. Since they aren't due at the ranch until the following morning the group decides to go over to the resturant for supper. They walk in and see the famous Shafer Sisters dance duo, Velva and Phyllis at the first table. The grils have just starred in the Broadway hit Dancing in the Waste Can. After dinner they see a familiar girl walk in. It is none other than their old class- m at e ,Paula Foltz, who is now manager of the west's newest business, Kersh's Kozey Koffins Inc. While they are eating, the floor show starts and out come the Daring Darling Sisters, Janice Altman and Florence Sterling who sing the latest hit, Go to the Moon Soon. Going back to the hotel they all get a good night's sleep. The next morning, bright and early, they arrive at the Peaceful Panther Dude Ranch where they are met by the rough-1idin', fast-shootin' foreman, Mark Deerwester and his glamorous sidekick Shirley Like. Mark shows them to the main ranch house where they are introduced to the guests. Among them are famous Conover models, Beverly Shoop and Sara Myers, and the An- gelic Acrobats, Dennis The Menace Peters and Larry Lightning Legs Or- wick. Also visiting is the T.V. comedienne Janice Laughing Gir1 Schwartz. Going into the kitchen they meet the head cook and bottle washer Robert Phillips and his number one assistant Shirley Mean Mop Miller. Since they a.ten't due to sing until evening, Co01 Cat and Jerky Foot try their luck on horseback. Going through a small turmel they find them- selves in a box canyon. All of a sudden they hear a terrifying laugh. They rocket back to the ranch and ask the foreman what the sound was. He told them it was the Hermit Rancher, Bob Confirmed Bachelor Self. It seems his girl had jilted him so he became a hermit. Our story ends as we hear the soft twang of a guitar and our two heroes break break into song. COMPLIMENTS OF EVANS TYPEWRITER COIVIPANY 19 1. Now, suddenly it's all over forever, and we find ourselves looking back on those four years that were so filled with precious memories of our high school days. In 1953, thirty-three very green little Freshmen began their strenuous climb to the top. After several somewhat bewildering days, we elected the following officers, President, Larry Orwick, Vice-President, Mark Deerwester, Secretary-Treasurer, 'Phyllis Kersh, Historian, Paula Foltz, Reporter, Beverly Shoop. Our Advisor was Mr. White. We selected for our motto Enter to Grow, Depart to Serve. We chose for our class colors scarlet and gray, and for our flower, the white rose. Our class gained three new members, Rose Burnett, Dan Dietrich, and Sara Myers, but we were sony to lose Larry Wil- cox, who moved away in November. Our history began to grow as we became Sophomores. Although we hadn't changed much, we thought we were 10047: smarter and quite a bit older and more mature. Of course we soon found out differently. Our competent and helpful officers that year were President, Beverly Shoop, Vice-President, Phyllis Kersh, Secretary-Treasurer, Mark Deerwester, Historian, Rose Burnett, Reporter, Dennis Nagy. Mr. Schmunk acted as our class advisor. We gained Myles Sherick. Our biggest moment was when we voted for and selected our class rings. Our half-way mark began with 30 Juniors, and bright, shiny rings. We were sorry to lose Janice Monett, Otha Sudlow, Rose Burnett and Dennis Nagy, but was glad to welcome Ha Rose Lindemeyer, Shirley Miller, Florence Sterling and Tom Palmerton. We then elected oiicers to serve the year. They are President, Beverly Shoop, Vice-President, Mark Deerwester, Secre- tary-Treasurer, Phyllis Kersh, Historian, Paula Foltz, Reporter, Ray Miller. Mrs. Ensign was our class advisor. Of the many big moments of our Junior year was the presentation of the class play Grandad Steps Out which was a hugh success. Paula Foltz was chosen as a high school cheerleader. We worked very hard on our class projects of selling Christmas Cards and working at the concession stands at the basketball games. In May we honored the Sen- iors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. We chose as our theme Top Hat Club 56 . Twenty-eight seniors began in September for the final plunge. During the year we lost Shirley Winkle and Ray Miller, but we glad to welcome Dennis Peters and Larry Klingler. Our officers this year were President, Beverly Shoop, Vic e-President, Mark Deerwester, Secretary-Treasurer, Larry Owwich, Reporter, Phyllis Kersh, Historian, Paula Foltz. We were honored to have Mrs. Ensign as our class advisor again this year. On October 5th our Mothers serv- ed a ham supper before the homecoming game. Queen Paula Foltz reigned over the game. We enlarged our treasury by the basketball concessions and saving tax stamps. Our play A Broom for the Bride was a great success. The highlight of the year was our trip to Washington and New York during which we took in all the beautiful sights of the Capital City.- We wish to thank the Juniors for the nice banquet. Everyone enjoyed it. Here it is, the long a- waited day, graduation. Beccalaureate was held at 2:00 and Commence- ment at 8:00 on May 19. Although the Panther squad chalked up only one victory, the season can be considered a success in terms of valuable experi ence gained by players and coaches. McCornb's lone gridiron victory came at the expense of Van Buren's Black Knights This year's Panther Bowl Homecoming was spectacular except for one detail. Mt. ' PA THERS This year the team started with no lettermen and was rough sledding for a while. But among the boys was a will and determination to win. Our first game of the league we lost by 8 points to a highly ranked Vanlue team The Panthers finely broke the ice in their league game by winning in an overtime 68-64 over Arcadia. The Panthers kept their winning streak going for one more week by downing Van Buren 77 to 70. The Panthers dropped the next two games in a row. Then came back to win the final league game 54-53 over Liberty-Benton. McComb drew Liberty-Benton in the tournament. The Panthers could not get going and were knocked from the ranks to the tune of 70-47. With eight lettermen this year and four returning letterrnen back next year the Panthers have a prospec tive season. The McComb baseball team, though lacking experience, performed commendably this year. ,There werea lot of holes to be plugged up as the Panthers got Lmderway because of the number of seniors lost through gradua- tion. Bob Phillips, a senior letterman, was called upon constantly for the pitching chores. Other help in this de- partment came from Jerry Foltz and Roy Wise, Bob being the only experienced pitcher on the staff. Other experienced lettermen included: seniors Larry Mapes, Bud Sherick, Bob Self, and junior Ian Nigh. Catcher Larry Mapes did a fine job of receiving and batting again this year. Bob Self and Bud Sherick again did fine work in the field and their experience helped bolster the team a lot. Jan Nigh was a great help in the field and at bat. This year's team was, in some ways, a preview of the team to come. Several freshmen were members of this year's squad and their experience will lead to varsity jobs in the years to come. The Prologue starts the story with two angels, Agnes and Wilfred, descending to earth to pick up a couple of elderly souls. However, their mission is complicated when a mischievous would-be angel, Pilone by name, joins them in a kind of heavenly hitch-hike. The two elderly souls are Augusta Applegate, a wealthy and sarcastic spinster, and Herman Howell, a kindly, retired sailor. Herman is ready to go: but Augusta hates to part with her money. Orpha Teel and Millie Bromsley, Augusta's nieces unconsciously side with the angels. Orpha desires a rich husband for her daughter, Ruthie, while Millie and her inventor-husband, Baxter, need Augusta's capital rn order to make his inventions a success. Millie and Baxter's daughter, June, is engaged to marry Richard White, a young photographer. Pilone has the power of making people fall in love simply with his kiss. He tests his power on Ruthie, who falls in love with Robert Hanley. Diana Clump, Augusta's frustrated maid, who has just been jilted for the eleventh time, suddenly qualifies as an angel.
