SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The year 1976. It was a balmy day in springg the birds were singing, the bees were buzzing and in the South Todd Street Rest Home sat Miss Eleanor Painter,a retired chemist, physicist, and school teacher, viewing her favorite television show, Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town. As the master ofceremonies strolled to the center of the stage, she was amazed to see a new MC. None otherthan Jack Jacobs, stillhandsome, in spite of his receding hair line. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,I am very happy to be here in place of our dear, beloved Ed Sullivan who retired last week. Ihave a very spectacular show lined up for you this afternoon. Here is the designing engineer, Jim Stoepfel, to tell you about Washburn's Wacky Wishy Washers. This is the only washer of its kind that washes, sudses, starches, rinses, dries, irons, and mends. The clothes come out sparkling clean and ready to wear. Now on with the show! Our first surprise this afternoon is from the famous Judy Nigh Dance Studio, the FOUR RHYTHM- ETTES consisting of Susan Joesph, Margie Otto, Lucille Davis and Lois Sterling --- Thank you, girls. Now, next on our show, we have Clever Bill Clevenger and his one-man band, --- making more music than two ordinary bands. Now,let ushave our ace camera man, Ervin Zeltner, turn his camera out to the audience and in- troduce our honore d guests. As I look out on the audience, I see Five-star General Jack Harden. Seated beside him are Lois Ann Snavely, Florence Myers, and Sharon Osborn, our three most promi- nent heads of the Woman's National Guard. In the fourth row is the world famous basketball team, the SHAWTOWN SPACETROTTERS. The center is Duane Lambert, the two forwards are Bob Snively and Gail Newcomer, the two guards are Dick Pickens and Terry Gary. They will be playing next at the Gene Bundy Sports Arena in East Mc- Comb. Now,back to the entertainment side of the show. Introducing rhe concert violionists, extra-ordi- nary, Jeanette Augsburger, playing Jo Anne Ewing's latest composition, Lukewarm Canary. Jeanette will be accompanied by the King of the 88, Hugh Kleinhenz. Here area few words from our alternate sponsor. We are highly honored to have Evelyn and Shir- ley Smith, the owners of the SMITH SISTERS COUGH DROPS CORPORATION, to tell us personally about their product. Our cough drops come in the following various colors: pink, lavender, tur- quoise and many others. Remember, with SMITH SISTERS COUGH DROPS there is not a cough and a car load. At this time we would like to present America's singing sensation, the Hancock HAIR RAISERS, The singers are Elaine Ritter, Joanne Wilson, Frank Rozelle and Don Barker who will sing Crying in the Sewer. Our next act is very unusual, the spectacularly champion, flaming baton twirler. This twirler has won District, State, National, and World championships. Now introducing the Grand Champion, Bob Stoep el. We have more celebrities in the audience. House lights please. Up in the left balcony, we see seatedthe World's Women Bowling Champs,Betty Finley,Ann Harden, Carolyn Orwick and Carol Sue Fundum. These girls have knocked down 10 pins in all corners of the world. Also, seated in the audience is the women's answer to J. Edgar Hoover, Bonnie Tate. And now, more entertainment. Ladies and gentlemen, we are honored to have with us the star of stage, screen, and opera, Nancy Ann Thomas, appearing on her first TV show. She will sing, for our pleasure, a song from the opera, Carmel. She will be accompanied by Janet Collingwood on the bag pipes. We have news ofthe happenings at the Geraldine Beam artist studios where Sandra Wagner's prize winning novel, THE SHORT MEN OR WHO CUT THE LEGS OFF CLARK GABLE, isnow being made into a movie. How did you like today's show? This has been an unusual show today. All of the honored guests and entertainers were members of the 1956 graduating class of McComb School. Miss Eleanor Painter turned off the TV set and tearfully turned to Miss McDonald, and together they reminisced of the happy days when these celebrities were their bright-eyed, rosy-cheeked stu- dents. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Seniors, at last we've made it, and do you remember as we started our high school careers four years ago in 1952? Now, suddenly, it's all over forever, and we find ourselves looking back on those four years that are so filled with precious memories of our high school days. We started our freshman year feeling a little timid and unsure of ourselves, but as we became ac- customedto newsubjects and new schedules we gradually acquired self-confidence. Upon inspection we found 43 members in our class. We elected class officers which were as follows, Ervin Zeltner, presidentg Bob Stoepfel, vice-presidentg Jeanette Augsburger, secretary-treasurer, Betty Finley. re- porterg and Duane Lambert, historian. We didn't receive any new members during the year, but we were sorry to lose Wilma McMaster who moved to Findlay. Our class advisor for the year was Mr. Clair Jones and our home room teacher was Mrs. Welly. We felt with the departure of that year we had made a very good beginning for our high school careers. Ourhistory beganto grow as we became sophies. Although we hadn't changed much we thought we were 10070 smarter and quite a bit older and more mature. Of course, we soon found out differ- ently. At the beginning of the year our class was composed of 38 members, however later on Jack Harden moved to Bloomville andBonnie Tate was forced to quit because of illness. To guide us that year we chose as our class officers: Ervin Zeltner, president, Bob Stoepfel, vice-president, Carol Sue Fundum,secretary-treasurer, Dick Pickens, reporterg and Sandra Wagner, historian. Mr. William Detamore was our class advisor. Our biggest moment was when we selected and voted for our class rings. Also, we decided upon ourclass colors of blue and white, our class flower, the American Beauty Rose, and our motto Cooperation Means Success. We were allvery proud of Carol Sue Fundum who was elected a cheerleader. Our half- way mark began with 38 juniors flashing around new class rings. We were glad to wel- come backlack Harden and Bonnie Tate. To lead usthrough the year we elected Ervin Zeltner, pres- identg Carol Sue Fundum. vice-presidentglulia Nigh,secretary-treasurerg Carolyn Orwick, reporterg and Sandra Wagner, historian. We had a wonderful time presenting our play, Love is in the Air, under the able direction of our class advisor, Miss Eleanor Painter, and we feel it was a real credit to the class of '56. We were proud of Carol Sue Fundum and Julia Nigh who were chosen as cheer- leaders. We worked very hard on our class projects of selling Christmas cards and catsup and mustard holders. We also had charge of the concession stand at basketball games, and we saved tax stamps. On May 14,we entertainedthe seniors with a banquet the theme of which was Down Memory Lane. Serving were 12 sophomores who were dressed as little children. We were proud to serve as Honor Guards for the Class of 1955 at their Commencement. And then, almost before we could catch our breath, our senior year began. To conduct us through our last year we chose Ervin Zeltner, as our president: Sandra Wagner, vice-presidentg Carol Sue Fundum, secretary-treasurerg Carolyn Orwick, reporterg and Julia Nigh, historian. There were 38 members in our c lass , however, we soon welcomed Sharon Osborn from Liberty which brought our number up to 39. Our class advisor was Miss Eleanor Painter, and our home room teacher was Mr. William Detamore. We were proud of Carol Sue Fundum, Julia Nigh, and Shirley Smithwhowere selected as cheerleaders and also of our beautiful queen, Carolyn Orwick, who reigned so well at our homecoming game. In April, we presented our class play which we feel was a great success. May 12, found us as honored guests of the juniors at the Jr.-Sr. Banquet. Next came Baccalaureate and Commencement on May 13. Then we were off to Washington where we all thoroughly enjoyed our- selves. As we left good ol' MHS, we felt that we had well fulfilled our expectations, and that we owed it to our school to put in practice in the future the knowledge and principles we had learned there in the past four years.
