Although this was only our freshman year in high school, we felt as though we already Hbelongedf, Thirty-six Freshmen returned to M. H. S. that fall to become an active part of the upper four. We were glad to have Raymond Crawfis as a new member of our class, but we were sorry to lose Rila Chamberlin, who moved away during the summer. We elected the following officers to lead us through the year: president, Tom Loy, vice president, Ronald George, secretary-treasurer, Freddie Metz, reporter, Jim Campbell, and historian, Doris Bryan. We chose Miss Frail as our class advisor. Blue and silver were selected as our class colors with the pink carnation as our class flower. As our motto we chose We'll Find A Way Or Make Onef, Our class held a Halloween party at the home of Lois Spitler. At the party we enjoyed a weiner roast and the Hall of Horrorsf, ln the spring we had another class party which was fun for all. 1950-1951 In September 1950, 34 boys and girls returned to school as Sophomores. We had come through our fresh- man year with flying colors and were well established as members of McComb High School. To guide us through our sophomore year we elected the following officers: president, Mary Donaldson, vice president, Fred Metz, secretary-treasurer, Joe Collingwood, historian, Durlene Kurtz, and reporter, Diane Mapes. We chose Mr. McVey as our class advisor. We had two class parties, both of which were held in the club room at the school house. A good time was had by all!!! All of us were proud of our class because we were well represented in school activities, especially music and sports. One important event in this, our second year of high school life, was the choosing of our class rings, which, of course, we think are the prettiest yetl We were sorry to lose Pat Martin, who moved to Rawson. But in February we welcomed Ray Lloyd into our class. 1951-1952 This year opened in September with our shiny new class rings waiting for us. The first day of school found us with 34 members in the Junior class. We were glad to receive Pat Martin, Shirlee Goddard, and Paul Davis, but regretted to lose Durlene Kurtz in January. Our elected officers were as follows: president, Durlene Kurtz, vice-president, Martha Sparroweg secretary- treasurer, Mary Donaldson, historian, Sharon Wilkinson, and reporter, Lois Spitler. We presented a comedy entitled uQuiet, Everybodyn on April 25. Although we didn't believe it would be, it was very successful. And we hoped everyone enjoyed seeing it as much as we enjoyed presenting it. Since we were badly in need of some capital, we sold popcorn at the basketball games, saved tax stamps. and held a bake sale during the year. May was a busy month for us as we served as ushers at Baccalaureate and at Commencement formed a Guard of Honor for the Seniors. To make the year complete and perfect, we entertained the Seniors with a banquet on May 24, using an Hawaiian theme. Our chapter of history was now very near an end. However, we looked forward to our Senior year with much anticipation for it held in store for us many activities. 1952-1953 We began our final year at M. H. S. with an enrollment of 35. We were very sorry to lose Dick Self and Ray Lloyd, but glad to welcome Jack Shiedler. To see us through this year we elected Joe Collingwood as our president. Other officers were: vice presi- dent, Tom Loy, secretary-treasurer, Fred Metzg historian, Mary Donaldson, and reporter, Janice Eberly. We chose Mr. Clapper as our advisor. We were very sorry to see him leave us early in November. Mrs. Welly then became our advisor. On October 7, we went to Greens in Findlay to have our pictures taken. We held a very successful class party in the club room at school. Everyone enjoyed square and round dancing and playing cards. We had wonderful food to eat and lots of it. We planned another party later on in the year. On November 7, we presented our play, uRest Assured,', under the able direction of Mr. Clapper. We were honored by the Junior class on May 23, when they entertained us with a banquet. The last events for us were Baccalaureate on May 24 and Commencement on May 25. We hope that we have left a good impression on McComb High School and that we have set an example for other students to follow. And now as we stand on the threshold of life, we are filled with a determination to umake good! 18 CLASS WILL p We, the Senior Class of McComb High School, county of Hancock, State of Ohio, in the year ot our Lord, one thousand, nine hundred and fifty-three, being of weak mind, weak body, and totally incapable of concentration in accordance with the laws of M. Airline stewardess Janice Eberly stated that none of the passengers were injured. Aboard the plane were International Broadcasting Company president R. A. George and his wife and secretary, the former Sharon Wilkinson. Here, said Jim, is an article on the circus that is playing at the Garden. The two top performers are Wanda Buckmaster and Doris Fogle. It says they tried unsuccessfully for ten years to land their men and then became human cannon balls trying to land themselves. ANNUAL CONVENTION The national convention of the old maid's I Hate Men club was held here Tuesday. Presiding was Miss Joanne Bundy, president and founder. THE TI-IIRTEENTH KING Doris King gave birth yesterday to her thirteenth son, Charlie. Doris is starting her own 4-H Club, Charlie's Creeping Crop Dustersf, Then they turned to the Sports Page, where they saw the column, Courtie's Column of Current Clashesfi written by Ronnie Courtright. The column was filled with rave notices of The Deweyville Lambs, the famous Pro-Team. The Lambs are in their tenth undefeated season sparked by Joe Collingwood's brilliant running and Dick Ritter's sensational passing. The team has not been scored on in six years. On the theater page they read the ad for entertainment at the ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria featuring the music of Leroy Butler, his drums, and his orchestra. Also in Leroy's band is that lovely singer and bril- liant pianist, Dottie Harden. Also on that page was an ad for the Muskrat Run, that new restaurant, which specializes in muskrat sandwiches, and run by Gene Rehus. Serving these sandwiches is a waitress from way back, his wife, the for- mer ,Ianet Sterling. Then, too, there was an ad for the Snyder-Kelly Trailer Camp. It seems that Lois and Mart had looked at so many trailers that they couldn't decide on one so they bought a fleet of them and now rent them out. And on the comic page they found the cartoon about the Arabian Lal Ab Ner, written by the brilliant cartoonist ,lack Ziessler. '4Well, who would have believed itf, said Paul, 'Gthat all our classmates would turn out so successfully. Jim agreed and they got ready for their first night in modern beds for fifteen long years. 22 lung.: lAilll4'lDlll. First we were defeated 6-0 in a preview clash with North Baltimore, and then at Clyde we were dealt another loss l9-l3. On September 19 we buckled down for our first league game and dealt Vanlue a whopping 25-0 defeat. Next came the seasonis big attraction, a game with our old rivals at Arlington. After leading in the first half, we fell behind in the fourth quarter and lost l2-6 in a heart-breaker. Although we were still suffering from the previous weekls setback, we were able to hand Liberty a solid 27-0 defeat. Then, journeying to lVlt. Blanchard on October l0, we defeated them 21-l3. With our league record steadily improving, we added to our laurels with a l3-0 win over Arcadia. Trav- elling to Cory-Bawson the following week, we were able to hold our opponents scoreless for the first three per- iods. Then, using ample reserve platoons, Cory-Bawfzon struggled to the winning T. D. in the fourth quarter. Exhausted and unable to retaliate we were forced to a 6-0 loss. ln the seasonis final fray with Van Buren the Panthers showed their ability by handing the Knights an overwhelming defeat, 115-7. To honor the members of both teams, the McComb Band Mothers treated them with refreshments after the game. When our seasonis total points were tallied, we found that we had scored 150 points while limiting our opponents to 57. ln addition the Toledo Blade selected .loc Collingwood as first string back and named Dwain Augshurger second string guard on the All-Hancock County Team. 40 1 .1- Sh l' ' z , Q X Z:-ish-r. Continuing in the winning column we were undefeated in the first round of league play. We were handed our only defeat in season play by Grand Rapids, 52-62 in the Christmas Tourney at Deshler. We bested Deshler 63-60 to take the consolation trophy. Remaining undefeated in the second round of league play we won the undisputed county league charn- pionship with an impressive 14-0 record. ln county tournament play we defeated Liberty 67-43 and bested Arcadia 23-13 in spite of their fantastic stall, thus qualifying for the district playoffs at Tiffin. In the finals we outscored Arlington 45-42 to win the county tourney championship. Entering the district tourney with a 21-1 won-lost record we dealt Ontario of Richland County a solid 56-36 defeat. 1n the second round we met Arlington, the team we had previously defeated three times, twice in league play and in the county tourney finals. We led 23-20 at the half but the revengeful Red Devils put in a fiery fourth quarter to defeat us 35-38. As county league champions and county tournament champions we boasted a record of 22 wins against 2 defeats. We tallied a total of 1,556 points against our opponents, 965, averaging 65 points per game to our opponents' 40. The reserves posted a 16-1 won-lost record. Bob Beam and ,loe Collingwood were nominated to the all-Hancock county cage team. Alvin Shoop and Richard Ritter were named on the honorable mention list. Selections were made for the Toledo Blade by county coaches. ,loe Collingwood received honorable mention for the 1953 Ohio High School Class B All-Star Basketball Team selected by the Associated Press. As you know, we did quite well last year, receiving a l rating at district and then going on to Columbus for the State competition. We hope we do as well this year or lietter. However, with the ever-increasing numbers of laanrls in the state, the competition is becoming very keen. We are also preparing for our annual spring concert.
