effective public speaking Speech classes, which are elective, stress the importance of effective public speaking. By participating in such activi- ties as dramatics, parliamentary proce- dure, and panel discussions, students gain skill and confidence. The speech department gives interest- ed individuals an opportunity to take part in platform contests ,drama festivals, de- bate tournments, and Youth Congress. The department was host this year for the dis- trict speech platform events. By scoring Superiors in the South Mississippi Platform Contest, Emily Wright, Kenneth Wilmesherr, and Annette Strickland become eligible to enter the State Speech Contest. - MARION BROOCKS B. S.
