Coach John Gray and his track squad finished a very strong second in District 29-AAAA track meet and at the same time placed seven tracksters in the Regional Meet held in Corpus Christi. The Cowboys finished behind Sam Houston who had a total of 149 points while McCollum ran up 129 points. The district title race was so close that it wasn't decided until the final events had been completed. And so what had been forecast as an easy title for the Cherokees turned out to be quite a scramble. Finishing behind the Cowboys were Harlandale, Edison, and South San in that order.
