Mike Aduddell finds this fact true. 4 at R ,gg il ware. The Roosevelt Rough Riders continued where Sam Houston left off and upset the Cowboys 22-14. Two blocked punts proved very costly for the Cowboys as they resulted in 9 points for the Riders. Trailing 9-6 at halftime the Cow- boys came roaring back and pulled to within two points of the Rough Riders. Leading 16-14, Roosevelt broke through for another score in the final period. Mike Aduddell was the leading ground gainer with 110 yards rushing and one touchdown. Fullback Lee Buckelew tallied the other touchdown, but it wasn't enough to prevent the upset win by Roosevelt. After dropping two straight games, McCollum closed out the season on a happy note by pouncing their arch-rival I-Iarlandale 35-0 in a hard hitting tilt at Memorial Stadium. Following the dedication ceremonies of the new stadium, the Cowboys rolled up a 21-0 half-time lead and then scored twice again before the final buzzer. Place-kicker Gilbert Ramirez, kicked 5 straight extra points and the Cowboy defense blocked two punts. Both resulted in touch- downs.

Cowboys Produce Impressive High hopes of a district cham- pionship were shattered quickly as Sam Houston and its fired up defense rapped the Cowpokes 270. It was McCollum's first district loss while Sam Houston remained unde- feated. A goal line stand by the Cherokee defense from inside the one yard line kept the Cowboys off the scoreboard as they trailed at the halfway mark 14-0. In the second half, the Cherokees picked up more momentum as they scored twice more off a sagging Cowboy defense. Sam Houston rolled up 315 yards total yards on offense while yield- ing 175 yards to McCollum. The Sam Houston game was the first game in which the Cowboys failed to get on the scoreboard. .
