Lee Buckelew scored first and then a 27 yard pass from Bruce Vetters to fleet-footed Gary Miller gave McCollum a 13-0 lead before Mark Dossett scored from three yards out. Defensive standouts in the game for the Cowboys were Mike Aduddell, Lee Buckelew, and Sam Brown. The victory pushed McCollum's record to 2-1 for the season. The Lanier score could have been worse but the Cowpokes had two touchdowns called back. Cowboy Team Wins Two 'Q 'ab' ,r asf 'B s 'Y E? Season Cpens For Gridiron Play HS! Mike Aduddell, senior Lee Buckelew, senior Sam Brown, senior captain, 2 year letterman captain, 3 year letterman 2 year letterman and captain All District Selection All District Selection All District Selection The McCollum Cowboys lost the first game of the year in a driving rainstorm to Alamo Heights at new Memorial Stadium. Both teams were bothered by the messy field conditions but the Mules managed to pull out a 14-6 victory. The following week John Marshall's Rams fell victims to a massive Cowboy defense led by All District selection Sam Brown as the Cowpokes blanked Marshall 18-0 to even their record at 1-l . Brown recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass and was considered the key defensive player in the game. N glass.-. Gamesp One Falls Short -X1 Faces were long and saddened as Cowboys look on as the Seguin Matadors end a brief two game winning streak. ltfffksnrsm Seguin's mighty Matadors ended McCollum's winning streak with a 26-6 victory after leading the Cowboys only 13-6 at halftime. In the second half the Matadors turned Cleveland Vann loose and kept the Cowpokes from scoring. The lone Cowboy tally came in the second quarter as Gilbert Ramirez scored the touchdown that tied the game for a short time. The following week McCollum came roaring back with a 32-6 bout with Central Catholic's Buttons. Leading 19-0 at halftime, the Cowboy's defense finally yielded a touch- down but halfback Gary Miller took a kickoff, fumbled the ball, recovered, and scampered 78 yards for a touchdown and a 32-6 victory.
