Kneeling are Gary Hancock, Randy Hammonds, Billy Monteith, Sidney Patrick, and Clifford Sepulveda. 2 1 7 The McCollum chapter of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America is designed for boys en- rolled in secondary vocational courses. The club includes students in trade, industrial, or technical education courses who are voca- tionally and occupationally 01'- iented. Purpose of VICA is to assist students in establishing realistic goals, to unite students enrolled in trade and industrial courses with a common bond, and to help stu- dents attain a purposeful life. VICA activities consist of eight projects per year, open house, and field trips. Members are eligible to enter district and state competition. Mr. Charles Griffey, sponsor of V.I.C.A. and Auto Mechanics shops has been the instructor for four years.

Billy Graf, Raymond Anders, Gary Hancock, and Dickie Maines check the exhaust system of a Corvair during Auto Mechanics Shop Class. is ,'--v- -v xlgl Auto mechanics is a two year course offered to juniors and seniors. Students taking the course develop skill in the use of power machines and learn to understand the problems of labor and management in the automobile industry. First year students learn the basic repairs and functions of an automobile. Second year students study shop manuals and learn to apply the knowledge gained during their first year of auto mechanics. To round out their training, stu- dents are taught to sell service parts and materials, and to prepare cus- tomer orders. Classes stress shop safety and cleanliness. N 219
