Little Nell the Orphan Girlii or Fight for a Woman's Honorw was the melodramatic epic of an orphaned girl, pursued by a villain and saved by a dashing heroic agood guy. The end of the season came and the Players held their annual hanquet honoring mernhers who were deemed most outstanding. Honored were Melanie Moore Qbest actressj, Robert Fletcher Qhest actorj, Toni Gautney Cfechnical awardj, and Toni Zuehl Qllheater awardj. Mrs. Beverly Cook presents Melanie Moore with best actress award. Little Nell's fate is discussed by die wealthy mill owners. 170

Dmmazw 74154 JS W its W1 The Speech and Drama Club got back into the swing of things in mid-September and kept swinging in attempt to bring culture to the McCollum campus through the medium of drama. New members decided to give the old club a facelifting and changed its name to the Cowboy Players. The unacoustical auditorium finally began to boom with the echo of line recitations. Try-outs for the annual Tri-C play were held with all four parts going to club members. A month of rehearsals passed and the efforts of Mrs. Beverly Cook, director, and her cast resulted in the production of Samuel Caufieldjs nDream Worldfi Dream sequences faded and club members were back to work. Fortunate in having an inside Contact in the form of Mr. Durwood Hargett, the players, in conjunction with the Latin Club, managed to stage a demonstration and critique of the then currentw Billboard Theater production of gjulius Caesarf, lVlr. Robb Webb was brought to the campus and he and Mr. Hargett thundered through the Shakespearian drama much to the delight of the standing room only audience. 169

This year the Biology Club presented a Science Fair in which projects of McCollum students were displayed. The club is sponsored hy Mrs. Caroline Pesthy. T. Abate M. Aguilar D. Ayala G. Ayers
