MaeFaddeifs basketball team disappointedly ended the sea- son tied for fbgirfrijilace. The first game of the season found the warriors rated as high favorites to demolish the Fremont Tiger, but the Indians tasted their first defeat of the sea- son by the underated Bengal team, 30 to 40. The second contest saw the Maekmen fighting hard to trounce Roosevelt. the favorites, 41 to 28. This tilt featured Joe Najera. scoring 16 points. Their second consecutive win of the season was scored over the already low San Leandro Pirates, 39 to 24. Castlemont came to the Filbert Street gym for the fourth contest and handed the XVarriors a 51 to 17 shellaking, in which Sig Jacobsen, Castlemont star. set a record for individual scoring by potting 30 points. In the fifth game University traveled to the Mack home court, only to be dumped 37 to 33. This game featured Harold Niendorf sparking the Wlarriors by scoring 14:130ints. Featuring Jim Pollard, Technical ace, the Bulldogs walked all over the Mack- men in their traditional game. 51 to 26. in which Pollard broke Nick Ragois record of 92 points by scoring 29 points. The last game of the season saw the Warriors traveling to Oakland High and defeating the Wildcats, 36 to 31. Paul Napolitano proved his ability in handling the ball by topping the scoring for the day with 16 digits. 'l' 121;: II. . wx IBauMdL Led by Captain Louie Vermdes excellent fielding and heavy hitting, the McClymonds baseball team ended the season tied for first place with Technical, Roosevelt and San Leandro. The Mackmen got off to 21 IIvingj.r stait when they defeated F1emont I to 1. Bill Witgrl1t.Wa1 '1i01 southpaw had to be relieved bV Joe Kiki Gomez 111 the third f111111c. For the next few innings Gomez allowed no runs and fanned nine. 111 the second game the Warriors met Roosevelt High, potential favorites to run away with the league. Roosevelt took advantage of Mack errors and won 9 to 4. Tasting their second defeat of the season, the McClymonds nine bowed to San Leandro at Bayview by a 7 to 5 score. Rounding:r back into form, Wight was sent to the mound for the W'art'iors and allowed Castlemont 011IV 2 hits to wi113 to 0 at the Castlcmont diamond. Tech used four pitchers try i11;..r to still the Mack b11151 but the Mackmen collected 16 hits and 16 111115. while Bill Wight held Tech to 8 hits and 4111115. Hitting 511115 of thiso game uere C1Va11eh and Dale Bianchini, each getting a home 1'1111. The last game found the Warriors beating Oakland by 6 to 0. .- 1 . W A new sport has been added to the girls3 physical education department. This sport is horse-shoes, which is on the minor sport list. Girls have shown a great interest and the possibility is that it may become one of the outstanding sports. Shown in action are Con- stadina Dades, Margaret Munoz, Rose Parento, Helen Georgantes and Elsie Rodriguez. Into the spotlight came another game, called bad- minton-a new sport of batting the hirdie across the net. Tournaments of singles and doubles were played. Arranging the net are Lorraine Andrcucetti, Lorraine Celia, Frances Solinas and Evelyn Miller, while Mary Taylor and Martha Nomura are waiting;r anxiously to start a game. Soft-hall was the featured sport this year. It rated as a major sport. Every grade was represented in the girls intramural league. Pictured playing in a game are Aurora Avila, Encdina Avila, Bernice Carter, Hel- ene Seligman, Julia Stragmalia and Mary Ann Tum- pich. Journeying to the football field at old McClymonds. future girl Robin Hoods practiced the ancient art of archery. Four of the outstanding players seen aiming are Grace Wilcox, Phyllis Davis, Susie Vartanian and Monica Acton. 0n the field at this school grounds, girls employed their skill in the game of hit-pin baseball. This sport figured as only a minor game.
