53-54 Team Sets New Records McClure High School after a very mediocre season's record turned on the heat at the county tournament and proceeded to upset the Hooper Rating. Aft- er dropping the opening game to Ridgeville, the fighting Injuns upset Malinta- Grelton in as thrilling a ball game as you will ever want to see. It was an over- time contest won by McClure 54-52. Our team then came back to clip Florida, and then scored the tourney's biggest upset by beating Ridgeville, the league champs,witha score of 62-53. The consolation game held at Ridgeville was lost to Hamler in another thrilling game 53-52. McClure started the season with only one letterman from the 53-54 squad-- Senior Jim Ashbaugh, who scored 413 points. Jimmy broke the school's in- dividual scoring record with a 44 point outburst against Tontogany. McClure broke the team scoring record the same night collecting 91 points. On Decem- ber 3, 1954, McClure smashed all existing Henry County League records by swishing the nets with 38 out of a possible 42 free throws. The varsity team was made up of two Seniors, four Juniors, two Sophomores, and three Freshmen. Thus the prospects for 1955-56 look a little better than usual.
