FATES FORllTOLD SCENE-the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hines TIME-a summer evening in the year 1967 As we approach, the master of the house, Mr. Hines, is seated in a comfortable chair, reading his favorite newspaper, and talking to himself in low tones. Ho-hum, reading the Blade is getting to be a dull pastime-never anything interest- ing in it anymore. Who wants to read about foreign diplomats, foreign correspondents, foreign affairs-seems as though everything is foreign these days, never anything fami- liar. What l want to see is a newspaper with real news, news about people l'm fond of, say, like my old classmates at M. H. S. This chair sure is comfy-now, wouldn't it be nice if a man could possess a newspaper that would give him a line on all his Class of '47 friends-a man could enjoy that-ho-hum, getting sleepy, l guess- Well, this beats the bugs a' bitin'! l This isn't the Blade- Sentimental Sentinel , it says here, Editor-in-Chief, Thelma Newlovel l lt's hard to believe, from Newsette to news- paper in twenty years. She's doing all right! 1-lm, weather report is right here in the corner, funny one too. lt's always fair weather, when good friends get together , by your weather boy, Ralph Shaneyfelt. Interesting Headlines, Senator Carrol in- troduces a new bill to the House . lt is his hope that this bill will end forever all labor- management strife. Here's a human interest story, Chicago housewife was seized by a fit of giggling at her home three weeks ago, and has been giggling ever since. Experts trace this un- usual phenomena to Mrs. Richard Shepard's high school days where, her husband sub- mits, she was always giggling. She is the former Miss lla lean Arnold. Another front pager, Miss Pauline Shep- ard, head of Toledo's new Day Nursery, is lecturing this afternoon at Toledo University to a group of Home Economics students. Miss Shepard is considered an expert in the field of child care. Say, this paper even has funnies, here's a clever strip, Little Foo Lou , by Allen len- nings. This must be the society page, Mrs. lay Wilson announces the wedding of her daugh- ter Virginia to lohnny Fellabaum, a Toledo- an. Say, she must have had trouble decid- ing on the man, let's see, she must be crowd- ing thirty-eight by now. Here's another interesting item. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ward are celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary today. They are resid- ing near Perrysburg wnere they operate a modern filling station for heliocopters. Miss Shirley Wagner has boarded the Ocean Liner, Lucinda , to travel around the world. Miss Wagner is said to prefer this old-time method of travel to the newer rocket planes because she likes to see where she's been. Whatever could have become of my friend Ward, I wonder. Better look in the advertises ments, never can tell. Well, here it is, Get your copy now-the famous Ward Wenig's latest literary achievement, How to Relax . ln his popular book, Mr. Wenig explains the fine art of falling asleep under any condi- tions-your money back if not completely satisfied. I-lere's a front page story, Miss Nonc Ruyf, experienced professional nurse, ha: just accepted a position in a New Yorl 'Home for the Aged.' When Miss Ruyf reac the registration cards she saw some familia: names, Mr. F. I. Neiderhiser, Miss Cindc Hatcher, Mrs. Arlie Bokerman, Mrs. Nellie McClure, Mr. Ralph Rotsel, Mr. Howard Mid dleton, Mr. Loren Beck, and Mr. Farison Upon seeing these she is reported to have ex claimed, 'Who'd a thunk it'1 Well, here it says, Phil Spitalny has jus' signed a new 3rd trumpet player. Her name is Donna Boyer. Mr. Spitalny tells us that she has been trying to enter his band for twenty years, and has had seventy-two inter- views with him! l Ouch! I lunior, lunior, put down that bean shooter. Gee, l must have fallen asleep- what a dream! Where's your mother, son? leanne, leanne, 1 fell asleep reading the paper, and l had the funniest dream, it beats the bugs a' bitin'l l
