Claudette Bordoni. a young French woman Louise Ruder 'iSpike Ryder, a champion swimmer - - John Wenzel SYNOPSIS OF Tl-IE PLAY Douglas Goodyear, a timid and retiring young man decides to take a trip abroad. While at Cannes, France, he writes his mother that he saved a young French girl from drowning. His mother, an exaggerating person, reads her son's letter and is convinced that he is a hero, a champion swimmer and that the French girl is a Countess. She makes the tale even more elaborate and gives it to the local newspaper. When Douglas reaches home he is acclaimed a hero He confides in his sister Grace and together they try to solve the difficulties. He has six weeks to learn to swim for he has been placed in a swimming contest. To add to his misery a cablegram comes stating that the French girl has followed him to America. Douglas finally manages to extricate himself from his many complications and is elected President of The Hero's Club.
