Traditional pep and spirit The few, the proud - MN Pom-Pon Were the hours of effort worthwhile for the 1982-83 Pom-Pon Corps? When asked, Cathy Reeds, sophomore, said, ‘There is a sensation when you are out there.” For years, the Pom-Pon Corps has ex- celled in performance, last year being no exception. The Corps started the year by winning a total of eight trophies at sum- mer camp in Vincennes, Indiana. From there the style of performance only got better. The 53 members of the Corps practiced every day after school. During football season, the Corps practiced with the Marching Band. So doing, they coordinat- ed the music, marching, and flagdrills. The Pommies also practiced Monday and Thursday nights to perfect the halftime routines. ‘The long hours of practice and being together have paid off. Now we are a family and we can work together for perfection!” said Theresa Hedigar, junior. y k routi el the pommies : C “ naintain their finishin e as they await the start Nb nial 9f the next son v yh J VS a Counting the ee Rae mae steps, Carol Clasby (y BY) (Ca Al and me hards, bi , CO enths n their 0) Gatts n half time s OF yt ae v H | ee ai we we” A: : ue Ww v % 1 aie D Ebmpteting their nthe ° All in all, through practices, perfor- mances, fund raisers, and service pro- jects, the Corps spent an estimated 600 hours together. Deciding on what basketball routines to perform, the girls planned the annual McCluer North Pom-Pon Clinic; they also began choreographing their competition routine for the spring.

While flipping through layouts for division pages, Kelly Kopp, co-editor, concentrates on doing her best. Sorting and distribution of underclass pictures, done here by Dawn Hasmer and Cathy Everding, juniors, is another function of the yearbook staff. Books past and present “CLASS ACT”’ we’re coming thru! In one corner: “A Class Act.” In the other: Move Over ... We're Growing. Robert Deckert, the new co-director of student activities, said he felt the theme for the 81-82 Polaris was appropriate be- cause the word “class’’ represented a group of people with outstanding quali- ties. He regarded it as fine work. “A yearbook is as good as the devotion you give it’, he said. Tim Herrera, Junior, had open and shut feelings about the 81-82 Polaris. “The sto- ries and articles were very interesting and there was plenty of variety.” He also said that he would be reading the year- book well into the future. Tim said, “I hope this year’s staff keeps up the stan- dard of excellence that it has throughout past years.” Bob Blanner, Athletic Director, had many positive comments about last year’s year- book. “I especially liked the promotion of the school through the theme, ‘A Class Act,’ commented Coach Blanner. “McCluer North is a school that has lots 38 Polaris to offer and should not be taken lightly.” Of course, the ’83 Polaris was not to be taken lightly, either. As with the ’82 Po- laris, the new yearbook engendered com- ments way before the publication date. Amy Thomas, sophomore, said, ‘The yearbook needs candid pictures of people doing things.’”” And Dexter Holiday, sen- ior, said, “It needs lots of sports pictures, beautiful cheerleaders, and events that happen at school.” “The most important characteris- tics of a yearbook staff are cooper- ation and enthusiasm — we have them!” Kelly Kopp With such a varied and enthusiatic audi- ence — not to mention a tradition — the ’83 Polaris had to keep moving and con- tinue growing. And that was part of the tradition, for the school and the yearbook alike. Move Over ... We’re Growing
