Comets: I-270 Champs The 1975-76 McCluer Comets were a sur- prise to almost everybody - except them- selves. All anybody ever heard about the team was: They lost too many key players , They don't have any height , and I just don't think they have the talent. But there was one thing that most people overlooked, the coach believed in them, and they believed in themselves. They proved themselves by putting together an outstanding season, and by doing things on the Court that nobody thought they would ever do. The Players: Senior Matt Holliday - known as the Doc for his ability to pull out the close ones. His ability and aggressive play typified the Comets. Junior Deron Thomas -the Bones could score points from all over and proved that he was a pIayer's player. Senior Jeff Lindsey - the tooter was off and on in the beginning, but after a 40 point game, he showed his worth and desire. Senior Phil Mathis - the center Cthe position that the Comets weren't supposed to haveb. At only 6'3 , Mathis had it hard, but he got going when the going got tough.
