last class to have been closely associated with Colonel Moore and Mr. Briggs, and the first class to be graduated under our new Superintendent, Mr. Harllee, and our new Principal, Mr. McCown. We are the last regular class to be gradu- ated under the eleven year program. We are the first class to have as our president a veteran of World War II. We are the first class since the war to be able to get rings with stones in them, and to have invitations with decklecl edges. Also, we are the . Hrst class to organize a girls' football team. You must admit that the Bobbie Sox Bowl Game, staged by those fair but ferocious damsels, was an un- usual performance, to say the least. Now, after all of our varied experi- ences, our joys and our sorrows, the hour of departure draws near, and we high and mighty Seniors find ourselves very humble and a little dismayed as we realize that the time has come for us to leave. The long awaited time, now a reality, does not seem so appealing to us. As a final token of our appreciation and love, we dedicate our 1947 Floren- tine to our teachers, whose memories we shall always cherish. With heavy hearts and fond memories, we now bring to a close the history of our class, pledging to you that as we go out into the world we shall ever strive to be worthy gradu- ates of our Alma Mater. 4 '15

14+ Brackettg Vice-President, Alice Bult- mang Secretary, Sarah Ford, Treasurer, jack Hamilton, Sponsor, Miss Hanner. Under their splendid leadership the class of 1947 has had a wonderful year. Our orator of renown, Lucy Harwell, was elected President of Student Gov- ernment, and Rosalyn Senseney was elected Vice-President. Seniors, do you remember our sensa- tional magazine campaign, under the enthusiastic leadership of Wayne Brack- ett and Loren Mead? june Short was our Super salesman, and Lottie Mae Woods was second highest. Lots of our class succeeded in becoming Honor Salesmen. Yes, our great success assured our being able to finance the kind of an annual we were determined to have. Our next matter of business was the selection of our rings, and what beauties we chose! Do you remember the mad excitement that marked their arrival, the week before the Christmas holidays? The arrival of our rings and the arrival of our annuals marked two red letter days in our lives. Our football team, captained by Ma- jor and Tommy Summerford, brought us great honor all year, and our hearts burst with pride when Lukie Brunson was judged All Southern and Major Summerford was judged All State. The Yellow jacket , under the ex- cellent leadership of Miss Brothers, Billy Gaillard, and Patsy Schnibben, continu- ed to add to their laurels by, as usual, monopolizing all the journalistic honors that are awarded! As Editor-in-Chief and Business Man- ager of the 1947 Florentine, we elected Loren Mead and Clarence Davis, re- spectively and congratulated ourselves upon our wise choices. The other mem- bers of our splendid annual staff were elected with equal confidence. From that day forward, much interest and curiosity were aroused by the mysterious activities of our hard working staff, who closeted themselves in the never-to-be-forgotten conference room and slaved away. Their theme song became Night and Day. Do you remember when every day's bulletin announced, There will be an important meeting of the annual staff after school today and Such and such a group meet out front to have your picture made i5 Ah, those were the days of blissful chaos, so dear to our hearts, when we cheerfully begged the Black- mons, George McDaniel and Bobby Fraser, to snap us in every possible pose. How we loved it! As for our May Court beauties-could we have had a more beautiful Queen and Maid of Honor than Margaret Cul- berson and Betty McDonald? Each class selected its loveliest to represent them. Representing the class of 1947 were Verida Blackwell, Mary Kemp Griffin, Anne McLaughlin, and Carolyn Fitz- gerald.
