The game showed excellent defensive play cn the part of both teams, but the Dragons were outdone in the punting department due to the fine kicking of Freddie Wristen, the Lion's triple-threat halfback. The Lions scored the first touchdown with a swan dive over the goal line by Freddie Wristen from the three-yard line. The Dragons soon followed suit, when Parino ran a Lion punt back 36 yards to set up their only score of the evening. Parino skirted end for six counters, and the conversion was missed. Thus ended the scoring of a thrilling game in the annual rivalry. The Varsity went through its season with a high de- gree of success. With an entirely green team, Coach Chauncey Wilson used this season to give ex- perience to these boys. With this year's experience behind them, and most of the team being sophomores and juniors, next year's season should rank among the most successful in the school's history. Leading the team at bat was diminutive outfielder Louie Lerna, with a neat 386. Lou came up from last year's junior varsity where he also led the team in that division. Fielding stars for the team were the two alternative first hasemen, Norman Cfreenslate and Captain Mel Kelly who went through the season without an error which is quite an accomplishment in any league. Five lettermen from this year's varsity will report loack next year for another season of competition. The boys returning are: Wes Kelly, Norman Greenslate, Tom Warner, Ted Sheppard, and Dale Kern. By far the most successful of Lion track teams this year, was the UB squad. Y iw lt was defeated only once in a dual meet, and that was suffered at the hands of their arch rivals, the Sacramento Dragons. The score was SZVZ to Sllfg. That was the first dual meet that a Lion UB team had lost in over two years. Their actions in big meets other than dual meets were also very commendable. The team's greatest victory was in bringing home again the beautiful Big Four trophy which adorns the auditorium showcase. To win this trophy for the second time, the boys had to defeat the 'lcream of the section, from Sacramento, Stockton, and Lodi. TRACK On the team roster were three boys that have gone undefeated all year regardless oi the size of the meet: Toshio Yamada, sprinter, Milton Samis, l,32U runner, and Bolo Just, high jumper. Rhythm Road was the theme for the Junior Prom this year. Under the co-chairmanship of Earl Burke and Clark Waycott, low and high junior class presidents respectively, this dance at the Eastern Star Temple offered a Wonderful time for all who attended. A revolving circle of mirrors with many colored lights formed an appropriate, formal setting tor the Senior Ball. This evening of dancing at the Memorial Audi- torium, Will long be one of the most outstanding memories of the year l94l. Attractive bids and programs were provided as souvenirs by committee mem- bers under the co-chairmanship of Barbara Dunn and Marvin Silva. Another highlight dance event of the year was McClatchy's Military Ball. Many distinguished persons of Sacramento were invited to attend as guests of honor by the ROTC. members. Less formality and more enthusiasm for the good old Red and White are shown at after-school Rally Dances. Our school dance band played at the Big Game Dance, the Basketball Rally Dance, the annual Christmas Benefit Dance, 'Shamrock Shuffle, and 'Varsity Stomp.
