We have attempted to present a picture of our school with the hope that we can instill in your- memory the things about McCants which you would most like to remember. Each time you turn a page may you feel that this book was made for you. McCants is a part of your heritage . . . you are a part of hers. 5 SCHDGL LIFE PRCUDLY WE ACCEPT CLIR LEGACY . . . The things that happen each day I... the faces . . . the places . . . the victories . . . the defeats . . . the thousand of big and little events. All of this is part of our lives and the things we will remember. Bricks and mortar are not unimportant, but any worthy school is above all else a place of the mind and the spirit. Since 1935, when this McCants Junior High School was established and named for the one who dreamed and founded it, she has continually grown in tradition and enlightenment of purpose and ideals that stand today as a firm foundation for the school. She has grown physically with a rapidly expanding building and with a curriculum constantly improving to meet our needs. May our school continue to enrich the growth of mind and spirit of those who enter her portals. as The Staff: The Purple and Gold Mrs. Frances J. Kitching Mrs. Mary L. Here we received preparation, guidance and inspiration for the day we assume our role in senior high school. Here recorded are the scenes in which we can re-live those most exciting, wonderful and busy days of this year. You will recognize your place in the panorama of our ye ar's activ- ities . . . registration . . . Safety Award . . . Assemblies . . . Thanks- giving holidays . . . Christmas dolls . . . two weeks of fun . . . Kuder Test . . . the D.A.T .... Achievement tests . . . exams . . . career films . . . alcohol week . . . concerts . . . Flag ceremony . . . spell- ing bee . . . Purple and Gold Banquet . . . May Day . . . and then farewell. So--here you are--at work and at play. 49 PHYSICAL FITNESS We in the gym don our play clothes and become athletes. Amid dust, bruises and nearly broken he ads, we become softball players and foot- ball experts. Now we 've got to stand on our broken heads. The boys are yelling one-two, one-two. But for the girls the results are grace- ful and surprising. Relays, basketball and table tennis are fun. Serious physical education at McCants teaches us new skills and develops our co-ordination, grace and poise. Since football is the only intramural sport in which McCa.nts partici- pates, all our athletes waited eagerly for the first practice. When the day arrived, many good players were present to try out for the two teams. Only a few games were played but the Purple Team came out the winner. As for the games the Colds lost, we only say, Wait 'till next year. 51 .gan-. - ... ..?, i.-e Y lv. THE GYM 660 Instructors LQ QQ' 45,3645 1 N Reggie Kelly, Mrs. Martha Layton, 'ML D A f B. There is joy, laughter, music, chatter and nonsense. It is froth. It lasts for only a brief moment. It is the wonderful season of youth . . . when everything is wonderful. And it is now. 54 ,.-ii THE PURPLE AND GOLD ALBUM I964 VOLUME TWO MQCANTS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ANDERSON, SOUTH CAROLINA A v :A ' 4.7 . ni ., , l 4 - 'af4 . ff- P . 4 -qiivcll' A ijUkQt wgglnkgbud fxf9'E c, A Qf QMYYV ' Q3-Ujf 'lj WO? 5, D ' ', .4 . 1 , ,C ucv .14 iyj +4 QQ f ffliSMAUTOG RAPHS WVQQWWWL Mw'W Oy Of .00 DX KEXQ-SML whim LC!!
