A MESSAGE T0 THE CLASS GF 1974 MR. JAMES R. WESTALL, Superintendent-Director Readiness, Reliability and Responsibility have long been recognized as the three R's of vocational-technical training. As one ponders these three words, it becomes apparent that the first R, Readiness, is not possible unless the other two characteristics, Reliability and Respon- sibility, have been achieved by the student. Why should school personnel be so concerned about trying to instill in each student the traits of Reliability and Responsibility? During meet- ings with advisory board members of our various departments within the school, it was recommended that strong emphasis be placed on these 2 R's. Employers want, and have every right to expect, employ- ees who are dependable, trustworthy, steady, and honest. An employ- ee who is reliable is one from whom satisfactory performance may be expected with complete confidence. A responsible employee is one who is answerable or accountable for his actions and performance, is cap- able of rational thought or action, and has a capacity for moral decisions. Inasmuch as our philosophy at McCann Technical is to prepare students not only to live, but how to make a living, we must be ever aware of the needs of the employers who we will serve. These employers have been most concerned about the poor work attitudes of many young em- ployees, and are now forced to show special interest in those job ap- plicants who may be recommended as being reliable and responsible as well as having had some skill training. It is our sincere hope that as graduates you now realize the value of the service the school and community has attempted to render and that you all learned your three R's.
