For the first time in many years, there was a new coaching staff - Mr. Walden took over duties as head coach, ably assisted by Mr. Ramocki. Many new faces joined the few veteran team members, and although Mc- Cann did not post any victories, the Hornets acquit- ted themselves well. Competing against schools often much larger than McCann, the Hornets played some impressive games, auguring well for future years. Nine seniors, including co-captains Fred Brewer and Cary Maroni will be lost through graduation, DISCOVERIES R. BISSAILLON AND SONS, INC. There was more competition this year due to a change Z in the league seheduleg for the first time McCann played St. Joe QNA5 and St, Joe qPittJ in league con- ference games, and also Mt. Greylock and Wahconah in independent games. Coach Cichowski took over as varsity coach and lnlr, Naughton coached the IV team which played many exciting games. Playing a fifteen-game schedule, the Hornets were plagued by had weather, causing a late start and a tight sched- ule with little time off for rest. The highlights of the season were our win over Lenox High and the ex- tremely able pitching of Ted Meczywor and Doug Cooper. Our FORMAL education has provided us with a map to help us make our way through life. Our teachers have a ct ed as the mapmakers, using their own experience and knowledge to plot the t wists and turns we are going to find along the way. Any attempt to disregard these warnings may bring us regret and tragedy. Most of us will say good-bye to fomaal education forever and go forth keyed up with sincere and honest aspirations. We have been told that anything we want we can get, if we want it st rongly enough and are willing to work for it. Nothing is beyond the mental or physical limitations of the individual who has set his mind and heart upon the attainment of a goal. We must not only consider the attainment of the goal but also the means we will use to reach our objective. If we employ dishonest, selfish, or thoughtless means which will hurt other human beings, our efforts will be worthless. We also must face and solve many of the problems left over from the generations before us, problems such as war, pollution, prejudice, and unemployment. The previous generation has already started to solve many of these problems but we must continue to search for more solutions. We have been made aware of how fast science and technology have been growing and changing . To preserve mankind and to solve some of the problems created by this, progress, we must look at the humanistic side of technology. The impact of technology on environ- ment and the growth of concern for the degradation of our world, both physical and social, have brought home to all of us that the lea rning of facts without values can no longer be acc e ptab l e . ln the past, profit and promotion have usually been the basic motives in technological changes, but now the dismal consequences of this materialistic approach are visible to all. Today steps are being taken to clean up our air and water supplies . Our country's great woodlands are being set asid e as national parks and sources of pollution are now being controlled. As we leave McCann to start lives for ou rselve s we have an obligation to our parents, our school, our fellowmen and to ourselves. lt is to strive c o ntinu ou sly to make life better. As the class of 1972 of McCann Technical School let us earnestly resolve to remember the instructional guidance of our teachers, be constantly aware of the means we use to reach our goals, to try honestly to solve the problems of our society, and to keep before us the humanistic side of technology by considering the values we have learned in school.
