UTO OTIVE Situated in new and expanded quarters in the new wing of the school is one of the busiest departments at McCann. Stu- dents in the Automotive Department study and repair many makes of automo- biles, ranging from wheel alignment to complete engine or transmission over- -no haul. Students work under the direction and instruction of Mr. Wilk and Mr. v- Britch and use sophisticated modern equipment to aid them in their work. Mr. Baker is the related teacher in the Automotive Department, and daily he' gives the students the theory related to the practical aspects of their work. When possible, students are employed in the Co-operative Program, working full-time at different garages in the school district during their shop week for regular wages. ln the spring quali- fied seniors that can best represent the shop are entered in competition in the Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest from which McCann has emerged victorious for two consecutive years. 6 Ms - ' I MR. BEA TY C LT RE The Beauty Culture course enables stu- dents to learn the skills and techniques necessary to become successful in the field of Cosmetology. Through this course a student develops into a well- informed, conscientious, and safety- minded beautician. The instructors, Mrs Cuddleback in the laboratory and Mrs. Tassone in the related classroom, teach the students cleanliness, accuracy and precision in all work, care and use of all tools and equipment used, and an ap- preciation of natural beauty, creative- ness, and the standards of Cosmetology. While in the shop, among the other duties, the students have an opportunity to experiment with hair style and color. Redhead, blond, or perhaps brunett -- all tend to make the halls of McCann a year-round lfall Foliage of color rivalled only by Nature, and styles, as unpredict- able as our weather, are a common sight in our halls. The senior year consists of studying business man- agement under the direction of Mr. Kal- kowski . The students operate and staff the school store, and many ofthe seniors work in local stores under the Co-operative Pro- gram. All members of the DE Course belong to the DECA CLUB, a very active social and civic-conscious organization, and compete in business contests on a MR- MICHAEL NAUCHTON district, state, and national level. The Electricity Course is one ofthe more popular courses offered at McCann as attested by the fact that this year the laboratory was enlarged to provide more practical working space. A student in this course gains the knowl edge necessary to become a safe and skilled apprentice. He gains creditable working hours toward a lourneyman's License. Theory, sci- ence, National Electric Code, and blueprint reading are taught by Mr. Dickinson, while practical laboratory experience is under the direction and instruction of Mr. Hartlage and Mr. Hamlin. Besides this practical experience in the lab, a typical day may find these stu- dents doing maintenance work on the school electrical system. Seniors may be eligible to work as appren- tice electricians at the General Electric Company in Pittsfield, or with local electrical contractors, through the Co-operative Pro- gram. 12 T -7'QIHlS , .,. - -.... ill- ,,.........- . . - -L.--1 V 7 x f' 'Gi MR. ELECTRONICS The Electronics Course provides students with an understanding of electronic theories and principles and their uses. In the class- room Mr. Szewczyk teaches related subjects such as basic electronics, computational mathematics, electronic drafting, and safety. The laboratory is under the guidance of Mr. Hover. Here the students apply the theories to practical applications in electronic experi- ments dealing with AC and DC principles, vacuum tube and transistor operation, and the various types of electronic equipment. It is to this department that the school looks to repair the various electronic equipment in use throughout the school, and to enable us to watch important events on classroom TV's. 14 ' -s 0 ' 'gm A 'rf : -H--7. 3 I . ..r........a 1 1' .... . 6 'D 5 1 , ,QL Q Q v .N . .ls isnalf, ni as 1 .
