SUPERI TE DE T- MESSAGE FROM ' i DIRECTOR JAIWES R. WESTALL In a democracy such as ours, work life is the keystone of the nation. Our civiliza- tion is not built upon the backs of slaves, as was the glory of Greece and Rome, but upon the work of our peoples in all walks of life. In manufacturing plants, in offices and markets, in the home, on the farm, and in countless other activities, the popu- lation of America is at work. It is, of course, true that we have some few at all times who do not work, such as the idle rich and the bum, and in times of depres- sion We have many who desire to work but cannot find jobs. We also have those un- skilled persons who have not been prepared, or even wanted to be prepared, to earn a decent living, But, by and large, America is a working nation. A well-known philosopher has stated that psychologically speaking, man's work life is the most important element in his life. All other elements revolve around it. Another has said that the foundation of democracy is an educated citizenry, which I take to mean educated for work life as well as for other things. One is drawn to the conclusion that work life of the right sort, adapted to the abilities of individuals, is good for the citizen. And if this work life is to be GOGD work life, persons must be prepared adequately to carry on work life, and this demands good vocational technical education. MCC ann High School offers good vocational technical training to the youth and adults of the area, and the student body should be proud of their school. I extend to each and every graduate my personal best wishes for successful future. james R. Westall
