He possessed a sincerity of purpose and an unyielding devotion and dedication to elevate youth and those em- ployed in industry. This stamped him as a true servant of mankind. He bent his every effort and energy to create a new educa- tional unit to aid the youth and tradesmen of our area. His firm and strong endeavors caused gre at confidence in his convictions and abilities. Heart and soul, he expended his all in this educational venture and he diverted and channeled his full resources, spiritual and physical, toward this end. Charlie, as he was known by us all, gave everything he had within him to accom- plish the right result. Then, when his labor was about to be transferred into a real, concrete educational plant, he was called from his hard, hard work. While we mourn his passing, we are comforted by having known Charles H. MCC ann who x as a n m of integrity and sincerity, a man who was a clear and shining example of living for democr acx Although we feel the deep void created, we know that having associated with him his person il quLl1t1cs and experiences have rubbed off and that he left an imprint and impact both in our xitx ind outlooks th it will enable us to go forward with the task ahead. Charles H. MCC ann was a good man, a great man, and his memory will best be strxtd by continuing our progress to its ultimate conclusion so that all of us may see what was always his dream SUPERI TE DE T- MESSAGE FROM ' i DIRECTOR JAIWES R. WESTALL In a democracy such as ours, work life is the keystone of the nation. Our civiliza- tion is not built upon the backs of slaves, as was the glory of Greece and Rome, but upon the work of our peoples in all walks of life. In manufacturing plants, in offices and markets, in the home, on the farm, and in countless other activities, the popu- lation of America is at work. It is, of course, true that we have some few at all times who do not work, such as the idle rich and the bum, and in times of depres- sion We have many who desire to work but cannot find jobs. We also have those un- skilled persons who have not been prepared, or even wanted to be prepared, to earn a decent living, But, by and large, America is a working nation. A well-known philosopher has stated that psychologically speaking, man's work life is the most important element in his life. All other elements revolve around it. Another has said that the foundation of democracy is an educated citizenry, which I take to mean educated for work life as well as for other things. One is drawn to the conclusion that work life of the right sort, adapted to the abilities of individuals, is good for the citizen. And if this work life is to be GOGD work life, persons must be prepared adequately to carry on work life, and this demands good vocational technical education. MCC ann High School offers good vocational technical training to the youth and adults of the area, and the student body should be proud of their school. I extend to each and every graduate my personal best wishes for successful future. james R. Westall FACLI LTY MARGARET ANDERSON TI-IERESA BELLINI Food Trades Shop L3 Related. Each one of us came here not knowing what to expect, except that we wanted a thorough training in our chosen fields, to become skilled workers, and to improve ourselves and our communities. All of us will remember our extended vacation the first ye ar when we started school in October, 1962 and went to school for only half days until December, how we rushed to catch a bus which was the first for most of us, the mud we waded through to get to our new, but not quite finished, school. There were no doors or floors in some places, no cafeteria, and hardly any shop equipment to work with. Two months later the cafeteria opened and our first meal was hot dogs and baked beans. Our first school activity began with the formation of the Tradescript, the school newspaper, with Mrs. Meranti as advisor and members of the junior Class as its first Staff. The first sport our school participated in was baseball, and, though we only won one game, it was a start for our other sports, football and basketball which began this year. just as in most other high schools, our yearbook staff was organized so that we could have this classbook to remember our days at McCann. Since this is the very first Artisan, it will always mean something very special to all of us, especially we Seniors. Each one of us will remember certain happenings of his own shop and class, and we will be remembered as the first class to graduate with all the trimmings like our yearbook, our Senior Banquet, our Senior Prom and most important of all, Graduation Day. For all of this we have to thank a wonderful man, Charles H. McCann for his steadfast belief that vocational-technical should be an integral part of this community's education. 25 C ASS PROPHECY Looking into my crystal ball I see the headlines of the North Adams Transcript of june 8, 1980. At the newsstand owned and operated by Dave Marceau, we see Sharon Love standing by her Morris Minor reading a paper. As we pick up our copy we see be- fore us Mary Cole, President of the United States, accompanied by Karen Lamoureaux, Secretary of State, shaking hands with jim Harvey who is the newly appointed Presi- dent of Harvard. -- An unusual article is situated in the middle of the front page. MRS, ELLA PERRAS HAS QUINTUPLETS: HER NINE CHILDREN CHOOSE NAMES. -- In the right hand corner we see that Brian Biron has been sentenced to three years in the State Prison as a bookie at Green Mountain Park. -- On the opposite side, nationally known brain, Hugh Dickinson, has invented a way to bring back hair. -- Michelle Rogers and Cliff Godfrey made their debut in Cleopatra and were mobbed by autograph hounds. They are more famous than the Beattles. -- On the second page we see Priscilla Santelli, Clairol expert, and Marie Galinski giving demonstrations at the local shops. -- Doc Boucher just hit another Grand Slam through the Dairy Top window where Sharon Burdick has been busily filling an order of the Double Malt Milk Shake. -- Nancy Brassard, manager of the Mets, has just signed Ron Denault for another season. On page three we find a column called Tell it to Dian and here we see that she is advising Carol Leitch to go ahead and divorce Larry Hunt. It seems that she is planning to marry a fellow by the name of Chuck Costello. -- Larry Wood makes the news again because he wrapped his car around another tree. -- Under Transfer of Deeds we see that Wayne Goddard has finally made his dream of owning Howard johnson come true. 26 CLASSES BEAUTY CULTURE ELECTRONICS ELECTRICITY FOOD SERVICE 9,9139 I X I IIIIIII I METAL FABRICATIONS MACHINE TECHNOLCGY 31 GRGANIZATIONS Luo ,Inrvis Sccrcuaryg Pete Levcsquc Trcasurerg Howard Lcscarbcau Presidcntg Lawrence Menard Vice President SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS SCIENCE CLUB 34 ? in 9,-P o-5 Mrs. Alice Cuddeback, james lfitzgibbous, joseph Girardi, Peter Cardillo-Sponsors. fwlariu Cdlinslri. james Alcombright, Louis Yamcr, james Harvey: Qabscutj.
