Bonfire, Dance, Football Sweetheart, Soclz Hop Marla Homecoming Celebration With the Travis game changed to the first district contest, the traditional bonfire was abandoned in favor of an Austin bonfire. As students Ettended advisory Thursday, November 22, exes began to gather on l he vacant lot adjacent to the football practice field to build the Woodpile for McCallum,s fourth bonfire. Shortly after 3 o'clock swarms of students added their efforts. Before the coaches applied the torch at 7 oaclock, the yelling had begun. Fire and spirit flared together until the fans moved on to the cafetorium for a sock hop. The students, spirit rose as they piled high the bonfire on Thurs- day aftemoon. . Blue Brigaders and other fans appeared at House Park early Friday to cheer the arriving Knights. There was a pause for the presentation of Betty XVatson, football sweetheart, then spectators resumed their spirited yelling. Although dampened by the 21-7 defeat, spirit revived for the 'homecoming dance attended by about 500 exes, Knights, and Maroons. lp - L lf, T Asa .al After the bonfire, the students assembled in the cafetorium for the sock hop. Outlined against the roaring flames of the fire, the cheer- leaders led the enthusiastic crowd in their yells.
