Glass iiiisinrg In September 1942, seventeen little geniuses peeked their little heads through the little portholes of a big experience in their little little lives. At first the building seemed gloomy and foreboding but when we entered lt took on a new light. The names of these highly intellectual individuals were as follows: Glen Amdahl, Connie Arnold, Marilyn Black, Irving Ege- X land, Jerome Fuller, Mary Lou Imsland, Myrna Kllstofte, Janet Lee, , Shirley Ose, Dale Ostendorf, Richard Thompson, Beverly Tjelmeland, Darwin Twedt, Carroll Woster, Dale Carsrud and Stanley Thompsm. We gave the honor of teaching us to Miss Doughty. Before the year was over Connie Arnold decided to go to Washington. , -S ' Dale Carsrud went to Nevada to see how that school was operating and Irving Egeland left us to go to Randall. g 45-53' Our second grade teacher was Miss Baldus. We had some people J Join us in second grade. They were Gayle Goodman, Viola Sav- -E 7 age, Avis Van Lew and Wyvonne Davis. ' We were really on our way now. We were in third grade. mr teacher was Mrs. A nderson. Four of the intellectuals left us and left us with only fourteen. They were Marilyn Black who went to Fernald, Berlyn Uskens went to State Center, Avis Van Lew went to Woodward and Dale Ostendorf went to Marshalltown. After losing those we also gained two. Beverly Grunsted and Eugene Weirson came and brought our total back to fourteen to enter into fourth grade. Our fourthgrade teacher, Miss Challe now Mrs. Gordon, Woster, welcomed us with lpen arms. Viola Savage left us and thats about all that happen- ed that year. On to fifth grade. Our teacher was Miss Marcella Egnes Wyvonne Davis dec ded to leave but we gained five to take her place. Connie Arnold decided to come back, Marlene Arneson came from California, Ada Wendt came North Grant, Glen Mathis and Chxk Merkel also Joined us. This left us a grand total of seventeen. Sixth grade and Mrs. Clifford Amdahl were very happy to have us. Jerome Fuller went to Colorado and Glen Mathis left us. Bob Severson Joined us from Fernald and 'Garlen Hickman came to us from Arkansas. Before the start of 7th grade Darwin Twedt, Eugene Weirson and Marion Hickman left us. We finally made it. We are in Junior High. What fun we'1l have.Mrs. Amdahl recognized us as a very intelligent class so she came along with us to see lf she could learn anymore from us. Marlene, Connie, Bob and Emere- tta stayed with us for a month or so and then they left. Connie Arnold went to Wisconsin, Marlene Arneson went back to California, Bob Severson went to Bur- lington and Emeretta Randall went back to Marshalltown. Our last year of grade school finally arrived. Our teacher was Mrs. Vest. During the year Connie Arnold came back to stick it out with us. Ada Wendt went to Nevada. Darrell Chentland arrived from country school to bring our total to twelve to start down our high school road. The seventh grade gave us a party as a send-off which we appreciated very much. Now we were green frosh. We were initiated by the seniors and became true members of Burg High We elected officers They were: Pres.-Carroll Wester, V. Pre .-Janet Lee, Sec. and ,- f ' , . Treas.-Beverly Grunsted. Our Sponsor was Elmer ,IW 6 Un Schey. The faculty consisted of Mr. Ritland, Mr. 'A 'u , If a- Vest, Mr. Foster, Mrs. Alford and Mr. Schey. M, 3 After we had successfully started off our high W ' school career we proceeded on to being soph- omores. We elected the following officers: Pres,-Connie Arnold, V. Pres,-Beverly Grunsted, Sec. and Treas.-Beverly Tjelmeland. Chr sponsor was Darrell Foster. Summer was over and we now took our eats as Juniors. During this year we gave our Class play which was 'Campus Quarant1ne. The play was a great success. It was under the direction of our new music teacher , Mr. James Montgomery. Chr officers were: ff W Pres.-Beverly Grunsted, V. Pres.-Janet Lee, Sec. and Treas.- Shirley Ose, Our sponsor was Miss Dorothy Drinkle. We gave our ,, Junior-Senior Banquet on April 5, 1953. We went to Des Moines and ate at B1shop's Cafeteria. We went to KENT and saw 'The Fourposter.' A good time was had by all. Charles Merkel left us at the semester.
