Fencing The McBurney Fencing Team completed a most exciting season. Under the leadership of the team captain, Michael Abrahams, the fen- cers won their first meet by beating their arch rival, Strom King, by a score of six to three. The second meet, held at Horace Mann, was lost by a single touch. This was a home and home series and McBurney again lost to Horace Mann seven to two. Michael Abrahams was the high scorer of the team winning eight out of his eleven bouts. Bruce Brown completed the year winning five out of twelve bouts and the team manager, Richard Christin, won two of his six bouts. Other members of the team were Peter Stack and lack Fields. ln the Westchester Championships bad luck again visited the team as they lost the challenge round by one touch. 'With most of the team graduating this year, Coach Bohdes looks for new talent in the coming year. Page 88 Golf This year's golf schedule is the fullest in McBurney's historyp unfortunately, however, the early copy date for the yearbook precludes publishing any scores. Back from last year's team are Ken Leffler, Bill Rose, and Mickey Shapiro. Add the new- comers - Bruce Brown, lohn Brent, and Gerald Schneiderman - and prospects look bright for a successful season. Bill Bose, who tied for third in last year's Westchester Tournament, hopes to better that place this year. SCHEDULE Kew Forest BBB B B ,uuu. The basketball season should be written in two parts, the first telling of a horrible team losing prac- tically all of its games, the second recording a series of victories. The two high-lights of the season were the Bedford Park game where the lVIcBurney cagers scored 97 points, a new record for the school, and the Barnard game. Barnard, reputedly the best prep school team in New York, was leading at half time by l7 points. During the second half, however, the Green and White came to life, giving Barnard heart failure before the final Whistler McBurney lost, but the second half showing was thrilling. The squad was made up of five seniors, four juniors, and two sophomores. The two co-captains, Ken Minoia and lohn Sloss, were the high scorers for the year, Ken with 838 points and lohn with 135. Behind them came Al Engler with l2l points, Al Parr with 82, Dick Kahr with 80, Ken Weiner with 48, George Bardoff with l5, Dave Mills with 8, and Teddy Daniels with 4. George Hutchinson and Tony Price, the other two members of the varsity squad, had no chance to score.
