The mermen even won one of their meets against college freshmen. This was a team to be proud of. Two rivalries enlivened the season. At Colgate McBurney won by a single point when the same free style relay team came through in grand style. That defeat swamped Peekskill. ln the Westchester championships McBurney doubled their point score. The second rivalry was personal, between Doug McCartney and Fieldston's Steve Kurtin in the 100 yard breaststroke. McCartney won this event in 1.05.- 5, a prep school record. The team is losing its stars, but this year's lesser lights look as if they will keep McBurney near the top of the swimming heap for some years to come.
