The mermen even won one of their meets against college freshmen. This was a team to be proud of. Two rivalries enlivened the season. The first was a team contest with Peekskill Military Academy as the opponent. The teams first met at the Brown Meet, Peekskill beating out Mc- Burney by one point by winning the free style Team 50 yard freestyle Willis Caterson, Don Bose 100 yard breaststroke Doug McCartney, Bichard Mick 200 yard freestyle Pete Eichhorn, Herb Zapf, Dan Konz 100 yard backstroke Bill Bose, Kurt Bae 100 yard freestyle 1 5 Herb Zapf, Pete Eichhorn, lohn Foley DiVi1'1Q W-.l,sLoren Ghiglione, Dick Stoeltzing, Ken Fielder 150 yard individual relay Bod Nash, less Brown, Hal Kerrigan 200 yard medley relay . cBill Bose, Doug McCartney, Richard Mick, Willis Caterson 200 yard freestyle ---Don Rose, Pete Eichhorn Herb Zapf, Rod Nash, lohn Foley MCIUCIQGT ee----gg f . . . 2 ,ssWil1iam Calise Assistant Managers , Nick Calise, Martin Decre, Ron Friedman, Walter Liggett COCIC11 W H. -hr .. At Colgate McBurney won by a single point when the same free style relay team came through in grand style. That defeat swamped Peekskill. ln the Westchester championships McBurney doubled their point score. The second rivalry was personal, between Doug McCartney and Fieldston's Steve Kurtin in the 100 yard breaststroke. McCartney won this event in 1.05.- 5, a prep school record. The team is losing its stars, but this year's lesser lights look as if they will keep McBurney near the top of the swimming heap for some years to come.
